Rob

Are the pads you are using BRAND NEW.  If so this may be why you are not getting the results you thought you woould.  I have found that CHARLIE PADS that have been used 3 or 4 times and washed in the washing machine work much better.

Richie.

they are brand new and i thought they may need to be used a bit first. how would you use them i.e speed of movement, area per pad etc? :-*

I get great results with charlie pads, although mine are well used and I agree new pads take a little running in to get them working optimally, you could always leave them in the bath overnight to give them a good soaking, this will open up the internal suction core.
My best results have been achieved when using number 2 heavy duty mixed at 10-1 so quite strong but only aplying a mist of pre-spray to keep dying times minimal, I then have one bucket with just water which I rinse and ring the pads in, once thoroughly rang out with a decent ringer I leave the pad in a 2nd bucket which has a lean mix of number 2hd with a ratio of 30-1 ish, this bucket will last the duration of the job and stay clean so long as the pad is well rinsed in bucked 1, when I'm ready for this pad it is squeazed out by hand so it retains a fair amount of fluid but not so much that is dripping as I aim to have carpets dry in under the hour.
This approach has given me the best results to date.

Paul :)

Hi Rob

A was explained to you during the on site demo

1. The must be laundered first rinse cycle only no detergent just water

2. It will take 2-3 jobs to break inthe pads

3. The area cleaned per pad is 15-20sm between change over

Hope this helps if you require further help on site give me a call

Best regards Nick

can you use 1 charley pad and keep rinsing it out?.

doing a school on tuesday 15 classrooms, a library, common room, staffroom and 5 offices. I'm going to bonnet it all.

so far I've got a dry fusion machine, a charley pad  and some Argo cotton bonnets

going to try solutions, activator, and chemspecs bonnet chemical, might fill a bucket with formula 90 and try that as well :D

I did 350 sq m dirty office carpet tile in 3.5 hrs the other Sat with a gofer who had not done any ccing before. He vacced & sprayed. I knew he would not spray little enough so I mixed the spray 30-1 and let him overspray.-worked a treat. Customer rang on Monday to say that they were very pleased.
The secret, I find, is to have a big enough plain water container to let the pad lay flat while soaking. Wring out well, redunk and wring again. The pad should have enough water in it to squelch if it is on the floor and you put your foot on it but not enough to drip when held vertically. If the carpet is really dirty I dunk the second time in No2 or 9 at about 15-1.
I got home walking normally and took the dogs for a walk instead of collapsing as after HWE.

You do need two pads to allow them to soak well, this is when the dirt comes out. We change the soak water every 50-60 mts depending on the muck- It is amazing how much comes out, unlike some others i know.

I too have both Texatherm and the charlie pads but prefer Texatherm for the dirtier stuff or at least up till now with my testing.

My charlie pads no longer have the nice grey carpet like apperance on the surface, rather they look fuzzy as the pile has become distorted.  Is this normal and will it effect the cleaning efficiency???

Ron - I think we are talking about commercial carpet cleaning when using pads as it out performs HWE 99% of the time.

I am puzzled why in a Cleaning Kit you would need Charley Pads and Texitherm.

I have not got either and I am wondering what the advantages are.

I was impressed by The Texitherm demo at Milton Keynes

I cant remember if Charley Pads were demonstrated as there was a lot going on and I was looking at Machines.

Ian,

They were on display at MK and results were as good as the tex system(If not better, as I understand the tex area needed re cleaning due to drying patchy :o) and all for 100 quid!! well, providing you have a slow rotary allready :)

I use pads to maintain a couple of fairly large commercial jobs with results on carpet tiles superior to HWE and a fraction of the setup and cleaning time.

Paul,

There was demo at SDO by Nick but i missed it as I was watching /using truckmounts.

When I came in Nick was 'demoing' the Eclipse which was giving a much better finish.

The superpad cleaned carpet was patchy and swirly.

I asked a few people as to their comments ,who said the superpads required dressing afterwards and this had not been done .

I am interested in a low moisture system but want the best.

Cheers,

Doug

Steve, Thats 2 words ;D

Doug, I get great results with my pads, but agree they do benefit from a good breaking in session. Mine are well used but are working better than ever, a good soak in the bath gets the internal sponge ready to go.
JB uses charlies with astonishing results so he may be worth chatting with :)

Doug

It was the tex area that needed dressing not the area cleaned with super pads, once the pads are"broken in" yes the face of the pad will look a little fuzzy, this is nothing to worry about.
