called one of my customers the other evening:''hi i'm the window cleaner.your windows are due for cleaning tommorow.just wanted to check if ok to come'' then she said:'' acctually no cause my fridge gets repaired tommorow''.then said:''right.when it's a good to come then ?''          she:'' next month"
didn't bothered to ask her what windows got to do with the fridge getting repaired.
but just make me laugh what some came with these days

Never ever ask permission it give's them an excuse.

I try not to phone if i can help it but i have a couple who i do.

I just say hello its paul the window cleaner.
I will be cleaning your windows tomorrow.

Thats it short and sweet and i never get a problem with people making excuses

I had one that I do inside and out, and went by in light rain one day and the guy said,

"Just do the outsides today, with the rain on"

I tought he ment just do the insides, and went to correct him...

"No just the outsides"

I tend think people make up excuses like that when they are short off cash and are alittle embarased by it. So let it go, but if they persist to waste my time they get dropped.

do you guys mainly work it that if they say yes be my window cleaner and come back evey month, that you then just turn up the nexr months and clean there windows without asking?

its just the way we always worked it is that we only did the windows if the person was in!!

i do have some not many that don't call them and they don't mind,but most of them want to be called and not showing without  notice.like that i think avoid not getting paid which can be also an excuse.people agree to clean on regular basis but don't always stick to it.

i might start carrying my diary and jotting down in front of the customer the date when i will return so we both know its a fixed date sort of thing

When you take a customer on as a regular customer the only time you would need to ring them is if they have poor access or asked to be phoned.
Very few ask.

We just turn up each month and clean the windows.
We don't ring or knock first just get on a clean it does not matter if they are in or not they still get cleaned.

I don't know how some of you chaps could build a round and only clean them if they are going to be in.
You must be going all over the place and backwards and forwards all the time.

tell me about it! i think i will have to be a bit more ruthless and maybe annoy a few people. When i tell them i will be back in 4weeks, i will be back then, do them without knocking, despite the forecasted weather and just leave a docket saying they have been done. Would this be the right way?

Thats the way I run it and because I dont show up went ever, like allot they get a more reliable service, one tip take jot down there number in the diary and if you have cancel you have it there, tell them the date as a cert and if that changes call them and let them know the first time you can get by. Its takes a little time to let them get used to it, but now my customers are really good and call if they are going to be out etc. If I can I go back at night to collect and make it as convient as possible for them. If they are not in on an arranged date they get a your windows have been done or not etc ..... if this day is unsuitable please call and we can rearrange.

My thoughts exactly Paul, how the hell do you schedule your work Milltown? and more to the point what if every customer on your daily list was out £0.00 income.
We only take on people who want regular cleaning and the regularity is agreed at point of quote. We leave a message for access reasons if necessary, but that is explained at point of quote, that we will call for access to be left for us and that the call is not a request to clean, but a confirmation that we are keeping to the agreement
