Website - Search Engine Promoters
« on: April 02, 2005, 02:17:52 pm »
Is anyone using companies to promote their business websites up the ranking on search engines, namely GOOGLE?

I have been approached from various ones, including iomart (rapidrank) and ufindus.com and was just wondering if people found much benefit from them.

They are not cheap, but neither are they expensive when you compare the cost of advertising on the various search engines

Don't do it!!! In my experience they just use adwords and charge over the odds. With a bit of creativity you can do adwords easily yourself and with the right words it won't cost much either. I used adwords for another business I run and was soon being charged over £100 per week. Thompsons webfinder ( www.webfinder.com ) might be an alternative.
If you are curious about google adwords its easy to set up an account and get started, and just as easy to shut it down or pause it, but if you don't go for the recommended daily cost then your ad isn't shown all the time.

I have tried Google Addwords in my county for one month and it cost me about five quid to stay on the front page.........zero work :o

This does not mean to say it would not work for another area, say in London.

My daughter pays up to £900 per month for a top listing on Google to advertise her online shop but generates a huge amount of orders............ poor old dad thinks he may be in the wrong biz :(
