A wee advertising Gem - bet you never though of this!
« on: March 02, 2009, 06:08:23 pm »
A few weeks back i struck a deal with my local chinese sit in and take away. I offered - i pay 100% for their menus and they give me a 1/6 of the space to advertise on. They were getting them printed for £66 per 5k. Since i got them done i have had a fair few enquiries and at the weekend both me and my father were working flat out 14 hours on sat and 14 hours on sun... and the rest of the week off. I wish lol. I have meetings arranged with 2 more chinese. Even for name awareness its worth it. They get their menus printed for free and you get excellent exposure.

I grab my menu when I want a Ruby, not to look for an estate agent, garage, mortgage, driving instructor.

I once tried going on a similar thing for our local chemist, cost me £200 for 12 months and never got a sniff, i agree better spent on 10,000 postcards from DP

good original idea.
wouldn't mind seeing the finished print to see where and how you stand out.
still hope you nailed the contract to clean the place as well though.

Was any other company going to be advertising on the menu as well?

Guys some good feedback and mixed opinions on it. I have heard of these scams like you got caught up with markpowell but that is where i thought i would avoid the commercial companies skimming money from the advertising. I specifically wanted to get on a menu with no other adverts at all on it. I geared the AD up towards - if you use me then you get the discount negotiated with the chinese. I never took the restraunt carpet clean but it was offered to me (although it might not fill you all with confidence - i am not ready for greasy restraunt carpets yet - some things are best left to the top guys.).

Tonight i have been out talking to the chinese carry out down the road and they are up for the idea too so looks like 2 hits in one week. At the weekend i had £500 of work just from the leaflets in the first restaurant - they are keen and telling everyone about it. I got another job today so not bad return from the £66. I do expect this to slow down however.

Colin honestly give it a go mate - get into your local and ask what he pays for leaflets. I didnt even consider haggling over the odds cos £66 is half the price you pay for leaflets and you are going out to the folk you want to.

I think this will be a big thing in the future. But try and get one that has no other ADS. It cost them nothing.

DVD cases a good one too. My mum has a local newsagents and i was wondering how i could get out to her customers - she has a DVD rental section so there is the answer - THANKS CLINTON.

No body can knock your enthusiasm Alex and it sounds like you have brain storming sessions...... in the mirror!

It's a shame that you're turning work down but at the same time a 'vewy' wise move! (Did you get that little joke there?) As you'll often read on here (and very rightly so), invest in a course to give you that extra edge, confidence and knowledge. Then you can knock that black greasy top clean off that restaurant carpet.

Keep dishing out those idea's!

Cheers....

I did the dvd boxes Clinton never got a single job in the year I did it, have also done doctors surgery where they advertise your company on the telly in the waiting room,no joy there either .As for Alex's idea we get so many of those leaflets put through our doors most people i know throw them straight into the recycling bin without even looking at them .

Be good to hear what works for the newbies :)

I got my c cleaning set up started many years ago and that was with y pages, shaun will tell you that as well when we started, used to get 3 or 4 calls a day from it and at least 8 or 9 jobs a week from it till it dropped off :(

No the leaflets were printed i saw them, just that no one ever called us, so i wasnt scammed, just that it didnt work.
