I'm thinking about leasing my next van and maybe car too. Just wondered if anyone else on here did same and if you do how do you find it etc?

we lease all our vans, its a great way to get a brand new van, as even one thats 2 years old and i good condition can still have 70k on it.

as long as you have the work it will pay for itself, then after 4 or 5 years you have paid it off and its yours.

I wouldnt do it any other way.

We do.
Make sure you get the mileage right when you apply for the lease, cos they charge per mile that you go over. Read the small print regarding signwriting, what is regarded as wear & tear, fixing tanks in etc.
100% tax & vat deductable. They pay for road tax. Not sure if the full  maintenance package is worth it though, as we have never done it.
All in all, it works. Its peace of mind motoring if you keep to the 3 year lease, cos it always in warranty.
With the car it is only 50% deductable, cos they won't have it that you use it entirely for work purposes.

Just got a brand new 58 plate Renault master DCI 120, mmw in silver, with speedliner waterproof floor 1000L ionic delivery system (no filters as we have a static system) twin pumps and controllers x3 leisure batteries and pole rack for £480.00 inc VAT a month for 5 years then we own it. deposit was 2.5K

when you consider that van can turn over 10k a month its not alot to pay

oh and you can easily fit the other equipment in this van when needed, gutter vac, jet washer and so on.

Why didn`t you just get the van over 5 years if you must and DIY a tank in the back,i reckon you could cut that in half at the very least rather than pay ionic prices.

My Doblo 1.3SX I got new from Vans Direct in Nov.2006

£539 down and 48 payments at £179. (£175 since the VAT drop) and £2500 ballon rental at the end. The estimated value of the van is designed to pay for the balloon rental at the end with adjustment for mileage and condition. So in theory I can walk away with no cash owing and possibly even a bit in my direction (fat chance - I'm not that naive!)

All chargeable to Income Tax. (at 20% in my case)

It's a lease in that at the end of four years the van goes back and the balloon rental is £2500 at the end. I cannot buy the van at the end as that would go against the Tax rules.

But I can trade it in to Vans Direct, another dealer or sell it to someone else privately.

I'm only on 15,000 miles (in 2 years 4 months) so that bodes well for trade-in value as it should continue.

I am sure they will suck their lip, point out the tank mountings, value of the pound etc and go "oooh, errrr sorry mate" and I will counter with my offers from other dealers.


Would I do differently next time? I might go for lease purchase or 3 or 5 years - but so far it's the best thing I could have done. It's reliable, had 3 years warranty and is tax efficient.

I could do the same a month with half the outgoings paying ionic prices won`t make oyu earn the money,at the end of the day it`s a van just because it`s supplied by them dosen`t give you the right to earn more that`s down to you.I have called them 3 times in the last week and have not had 1 call returned,they deserve all they get.

then this is the bit that i might have got wrong, you pay them 2500 quid then they take the van back off you ? ? ? ? ? you cannot keep the van ? ? ? ?

vans direct have a T5 for 175 quid a month ( plus VAT ) on contract hire, thats contract hire though

i could do with a 4 year deal and then a payment and the vans mine

the final payment is a touch steep, i guess if i went for a cheaper van it would be less

You know I really dont understand the abuse ionic get on this forum, there is a reason they are the market leader, i like and rate their product and service, sure its a bit more expensive so what, i dont want the hasle of DIY, i like the fact I can get a train up there and drive home in a brand new van, kitted out sign written and ready to start working the same day.

They are also the only company with crash tested systems, sure 30mph only, but thats better than nothing. Just watch the video of what happens when a diy tank is crash tested. in the big scheme its not really alot more to pay.

It was down to tax advantage and deciding not to keep a van more than 4 years.

Would leasing outweigh any advantages of buying a second hand. e.g  van £5k. £2.5k of which would be on finance.

At what point would leasing be more beneficial?

Trying to work out the overall cost of leasing and compare against buying S/H. But cant seem to get my head round the leasing.

e.g: If you pay £2k pa in lease payment's is the £2k all claimed against pre tax profits. not 20% of £2K = £400
Basically claiming £2k pa as an operating expense.

is this correct then, say i lease a van, my pre tax figure is 25 K, so a van costs 2 K PA, so thats straight off the 25 K
