I'm a rare contributor to the forum but I wanted to share an experience that I've had this week.

I cleaned a felt backed hall, stairs and landing yesterday morning.  I lightly presprayed with microsplitter and agitated with a Sebo.  Before agitation was finished the carpet began to show signs of rippling.  After an equally light plain water rinse at low pump pressure the carpet was beginning  to resemble a ploughed field.

Thankfully I'd warned the customer that felt backed carpets can 'grow' when damp but the extent of the ripples scared the pants off me.

I was taking away some dining room chairs to clean and was due to take them back this evening.  Driving up to the house I was dreading seeing the carpet.  The front door opened and it was like looking at a bowling green - flat as a pancake.

Customer delighted and my pants back on!

I've just done a search to find this thread to see if it had happened to anyone else...and it obvoiusly has!

Just had exactly the same happen to me this morning using an Extracta Scrubba, the whole carpet just seemed to stretch and almost bubble up underneath as if air was caught under the carpet. 

I had to bull my way out of it saying I would return this evening just to check......went back tonight and the carpet looks like new, clean and flat!!  Relief!

Hi guys,

Caused by the moisture expanding the felt backing.

As it dries dimensions return to normal.
