Insurance Report

I cleaned a customers stair carpet yesterday following her son being violently sick all over it and, although I removed the stains successfully, there is still a bad odour remaining.  I was told that he was so ill that he pretty much covered the walls in vomit as well as most of the carpet!

The customer now wants to go ahead and make an insurance claim and has asked me to provide a report for the Insurance company.  If anyone can provide me with an example of a report they have compiled in the past I'd be very grateful as I'm a bit unsure how this should be made up.

Fraser, you say you have got rid of the staining , but the smell is persistant, if there was the amount of vomit you are saying the possibilty is it could be in the backing, did you lift and clean including flooring, what attempts have you made to rid the smell ?,not normaly to much of a problem with vomit.

In answer to your question anyway, whenever I,v done a report after attempts of removal have failed,
I simply tell the the type , material and construction of carpet , approx age ,normaly that info  is furnished by the custy, the methods tried to solve the problem , stating wether any improvment has been made and any further attempts may cause more damadge. In your opinion as a professional c/c nothing more can be done.

basicly thats all they need to know, and normaly they would accept that with out even sending an accesor.  To be honest, I would have a go at the odour removal before any reports.

If you have removed the staining it would be unlikely the insurance company would do anything than send one of there contractors round to deal with the odour. She will forfeit her excess payment if this happens.
I take it you have treat the crapet with an appropriate deodouriser but it does sometimes still smell until it completely dries out. If it hasn't gone after a few days then advise a re-treatment.

Thanks for the first class replies.

I went back to try to remove the odour yesterday and it appears the problem is still there today.  It seems it has soaked through to the backing of the carpet and possibly into the underlay as well.

Try taking the underlay out mate and try and sanitise the back of the carpet ???

They will prob get a new carpet ::)

Have you sanitized the area?

Any chance of a look Mark see if it's better than mine.
I do mine in headed letter form just stating that I treated the stain using conventional stain removal procedures but it was unsatisfactory and have informed the owners that they should seek to replace with new.

took me a while to open it as i don't have microsoft works but managed to download a file extension converter for it and opened ok in ms publisher.
