Change what you say to.

Hello sir/madam I am offering quotes for window cleaning here over the next few days, would you like to have one?

No I have a window cleaner.

Well my quote is free and i may be able to offer you a better service, it only takes 5 minutes.

Chan I say

Hello my name is William and I'm from Pure HYRO Cleaners, we offer a Window & Carpet Cleaning Service, would you be interested.

The answer is either yes please, no thanks or can I have a card.

I always leave then a couple of cards and ask them to pass them on to any of their friends or family who might be interested.

I would drop the name part as the person answering the door is not interested in your name and kills valuable time.

Hello, my name is Tosh - being a Japanese Geordie cross-dresser I'm sure I will appeal to anyone in your household - have you had a window cleaner recently?

Errr..... no I can't say I have, sounds interesting though ...

Good! I've got a big rigid pole connected to my shurflo which means I can get to your upper reaches with my 14" brush.

Oh, wow! Does it get to the parts that my old window cleaner couldn't reach?

Certainly madam, satisfaction is guaranteed.

How could they possibly refuse with a line like that? Hmmmmmmm? ;D
It's a game of three halves!

 ;D

I actually won a new customer who was 'umming' and 'erring' over my perfectly fair £10 quote today by being a Japanese-Geordie.

He asked about my Geordie accent and I made the tight-auld-git laugh when I explained it to him; especially my old nick-name 'Whey-Aye-Banzai'.

I don't tell new customers I cross-dress for fun though!

I am 100% sure that customers buy the person, not the service!

What ever you do chan do not offer a quote if they already have a W/C you will not make friends this way,

Not trying to make friends, trying to build a business, there are no friends in business, besides people only change if their window cleaner is providing a poor service, usually not doing frames and sills. The only unwritten rule I follow is to not undercut.

I have had brilliant results canvassing by smiling and saying 'hiya do you need a window cleaner?' they give you a yes or no answer if it's yes you tell them your terms if it's a no you smile and leave them a card.  It needn't be any more complicated than this.

You can do, but technically you are supposed when door knocking to give your name - organisation - and purpose of visit as first sentence, if you had id that would be shown too- this is how we had to do it as sales reps for gas and electric firms, you can do it by just saying, "good evening my names sean, im calling on behalf of dolphin window cleaning, we are offering free quotes to save you money/do a better job etc,

I find people want to know who/why you are there pretty quick...

On the "dont offer quotes to people who have them already", make your own mind up about that as i dont feel personally theres a right/wrong answer, if you feel you are offering a better service, a more reasonable price not necessarily undercutting just for the sake, then its just business! Otherwise you are going to be stuck trying to find work, if the window cleaners in that area do there job properly you most likely wont take their work anyway, what i do is get to know the cleaners around me, and work out where is free, but work is work!!

I shall be starting canvassing this week, but fully intend not under cutting. 1 Dont want to make enemies. 2 wouldnt like it happening to me .3 Wouldnt want prices lower than i would want to work for However if the potential custy aint happy with their windy i would gladly give a quote for at least the same price as their current windy, so i maybe getting his work but im not under cutting either and maybe even getting the job for more money, in that case the windy only has his own self to blame for being poor or unreliable etc

Do this and you slow yourself up by 2 to 3 times , if you ask people straight off if they need a window cleaner then they know who you are , DONT BE AFRAID OF THE CANVASSING POLICE ;D
