The first vacuum on my machine (powrflite perfect heat) packed up today.

Had been having problems with the electric at both jobs - at the second one lights were flicking on and off before I go there and then all the sockets blew.

Once it was working again pump and 2nd vac were fine but the 1st which is on same power lead would not go on at all.

Does anyone think this sounds like something electric has "blown" within the machine or is it likely to be the motor itself?

Hi Si, how old is the machine is it still under warranty.I had a similar problem on my powerflite when it was 6 months old one of the motors cut out,it turns out a wire had come loose and damaged the vac it was replaced under the warranty.

Its about 18 months old Jeff and I think the warranty was only a year - doesnt sound too clever if its the same problem

I take it you've checked it's not the brushes

Si,18 months is not bad going for a vac motor is everything else going strong from new or have you had to replace anything.

Jeff - although its 18 months old it hasnt had full time use so not as many hours as some may have got out of it in that time.

Colin - is it easy to check the brushes?

Open the plug up and check the earth and the vac switch. My Alltec did the same thing and I was convinced it was a vac, had it checked and the earth was poor and the switch needed replacing. All fine now, but it baffled me why it did not affect the other vac or pump.

I had some teething probs with my powerflite machine found out it was a leaky pipe this kept on causing me to trip switches . When pipe was replaced it still kept triping on vac two. moisture had got into the vac motor. i let it dry over few days and then plugged it into a very poerfull source of electric one without an rcd made aspitting sound to start with then after running it for hours it was fine and no probs since fingers crossed.

What powerflite machine have you got mine is a 1350

Gone down the DIY route with electrics before and with vac.
Last time I made what would have taken the local engineer 30 mins into:
3 hours Sat morning tinkering with it before realising that:
I couldn't get it back together.
The engineer couldn't do it that afternoon.
He couldn't fit it in till Mon afternoon.
If I'd have brought it down first thing I could have gone round town shopping and picked it up at 11 fixed.
Moral of the story.
If you only think you can do it yourself you probably can't.

Its a prob that needs sorting as the tripping of the clients house fuse box cound damage something on the circuits :

I love to get in amongst it all, but then I used to love taking helicopters to bits....... Putting them back together was always a none starter though

I had a very brief look myself as not too  confident with that sort of thing myself.

New vac from amtech in the end. One of the connections into the rfi(?) was absolutely ruined (melted and frayed). £79+VAT fitted and they cleaned the machine up for me a bit.

That's a bl dy bargain for a motor and getting it fitted.... It's pennies when you think of how much money your machine makes for you!

Im suprised at the price. £79 must be the deal of the week or a very very special price from Amtech .

They were £179 + VAT when they were importing them but they are now manufacturing themselves apparently.

Was supposed to be plus fitting charge but the guy I spoke to made a mistake when he quoted it all in and said he would keep to that when I turned up

Happy days as long as they are a good quality build.
