Hi all, i've just purchased a 40" RO to replace my merlin.

There are 3 input/outputs on the ro. Water in, waste out, pure out.

I have fitted a tap on the waste outlet.

Can someone tell me, what position should i set the waste tap to when producing water?

And - how do you flush it and how often should i do it?

Its coming out at 002 from the ro so i'm hoping to keep it that way for a few years!

The setting of your waste ratio will depend a lot on your input pressure and tds.  As a general rule, start at a 50/50 ratio waste to product.  If you have good pressure you should be able to reduce this ratio anywhere down to 30%.  I would recommend giving the membranes a 5 minute flush before every large fill.  To do this, simply open the waste valve fully.

It does depend a lot on what the tds going in is, but if you get  4 equal size containers you should be able to fill up 3 with waste and 1 with pure in the same time. some say 2 to 1, some say 4 to 1 but thats your bench mark.
flushing - open your waste tap fully for half an hour once a week, depending how much you're producing each week, but once a week should be ok.(you shouldn't have any pure coming out at this point)

The thing is, when i open my waste valve fully i stiil get a decent amount of pure water coming thru as well? That is whats puzzling me!

you may need a larger diameter waste pipe. I've got 15mm plastic push fit on mine and it works well

Mine does that too especially if the pump is running, in fact I've half filled my tank before while the ro is flushing after forgetting to switch it to production  the water has still passed through the membrane though so is ok

If your waste is a lot more when flushing there is no need to do this at all. Just fully open the valve when flushing. If it doesn't increase from the waste then the valve is faulty.
