If you have the time go to the jobcentre and see for yourself who is in there signing on.  If they appear OK get their phone number and have a chat with them outside when they have finished.  Interogate them over a coffee, then give them a 3 month trial.
That way you can assess the person yourself, ask them what you really want of them , see if they are hungry for money and will they be really dedicated, and all it has cost is your time on a wet day.
Genuine people will be over the moon to have a chance to earn money.

you are joking right?

standing around and look for people that are 'ok!' ?? that is one of the silliest things i've ever heard! ::)
Same here! How daft to waste your own valuable time standing around in the JC :o
If you use the JC for advertsing then use it right and then you can "interrogate " as you put it in a formal interview. That is the way to see if people really want a job or not.......if they turn up for the interview. In our experience, most candidates from JC doe not turn up for interviews >:(

Jobcentre and all recruitment ads have to be politically correct.  Therefore the replies come from all types - the majority you don't want.  This all wastes your time and is frustrating. Hence my earlier post - look for lookers, go fishing in a pond where you know there's fish. It has worked for us.

Exactly and thats what the JC staff advised me to do (of course they are not allowed to say that ;))
