i have kept my price what i would call middle of the way but attempt to draw interest by using editorials and special offers get the most from the ad money spent. run dif offer each month   for instance all carpets cleaned in your house 3 p suite half price run the offer in all ads plus leaflets then at middle of month work out the next one

What you MUST do is sharpen your act up. That means creating and taking every opportunity.

That does not mean lowering your prices.

If consumption is down 6% that still leaves 94% and the 6% bit you may not have wanted anyway.

Ultimately it's what you do that makes the most difference.

Agree, you don't have to reduce your basic pricing structure, but you might need to give prospects a good reason to call YOU!

Clinton, we had two bottles between us which is a bit serious these days.

Rob,

The other thing I have noticed is it's all very well having offers on your website but it's not much use if no one is surfing for CC.

However a leaflet through the door, does get seen and if the offer is good enough you might get someone to pick up the phone who otherwise wasn't looking.

With all the positive talk about web sites, I reckon it's time I got one up and running.

Just had a thought.........................anyone tried e'mail marketing, ?

Can be done under certain conditions because un-solicitated e-mails fall into the offence known as SPAM.

I believe times will get worse for the next 6 months. People who had planned to buy new items have firmly put that idea in the bin, but give it time and realisation will kick in that (a) they can't afford to buy new but (b) the need to get something put back into some decent condition will kick in.

Matt,

Nothing personal but you're talking like the typical "pub lawyer" who thinks that everyone should believe in what they say because it's gospel!!

Personally, I disagree with what you are saying 100%, yes be sensible with what you spend your money on, but that statement runs true whatever the financial climate is.

The opportunities are out there for businesses to grab, the last 12 months has seen our business increase by nearly 50% and trust me that's not been achieved by battening down the hatches, stopping advertising and not investing in new equipment or ventures, it's been done by speculating on where we see the areas for growth coming from.

Last month we took on a contract worth over £1000 per week, it had been serviced by another smaller business who were unwilling to invest in the right people and equipment to service it properly.  The client has even accepted a small increase in the unit price on what they had been paying due to our investments and guarantee of service.

Don't bury your heads, think what you are going to do to make sure you survive and grow your business in your area.

If you already have a good local name, then use it to expand into other related ventures.

Ian

Also in the current market there are some good deals to be had on equipment and vehicles etc.

If also you have cash it gets a good deal that you want, well in most cases bar one as i found out last week from a supplier i caint mention as i found out last week when asking a question about the system and getting a sarcastic answer :o
