Anyone clean an Airport?
« on: February 11, 2009, 08:50:56 am »
I've just been asked to quote one, and was wondering if anyone knew of special insurance requirements, or details of airside passes etc?

Cool which one in ireland is that mate??

I alwya go through knock about ten times a year visiting family,

Dont think many over here will do them as the big companies like OCS and INITIAL seem to have them pretty much tied up :(

Its Initial I'm quoting for. Cork airport, the new terminal.

There's not as much glass as I expected,.. but still quite a large area. Straight forward job, but I'm guessing extra security and insurance requirements?

ive worked on airports as a carpenter

it took 4 months to get all the clearance for me to work airside

though saying that, when working for the MOD, it took longer to get clearance to go into camps on my own

As far as I know, none of the work this time is airside (Though there is a HUGE amount of glass on that side of the terminal),... so that's be a worry for a future clean. I'm considering doing the job at night, I reckon between 10pm and 6am would be the only quiet time in the terminal.

Nath, when going thru my insurance for PL, it excluded airports amoung other places such as docks.. so you will need to check.

Nat

You will find that most Pl insurance excludes Airports (airside) and hospitals, you will need to contact your broker and upgrade your policy.

you need to apply to the aiport authority for airside passes, over here its BAA. You can get airside work passes for the day if you got your driving licence and passport with you, but they say you are only allowed 3 in a year. we used to do the VIP jet centre at Stanstead on sub-contract basis and used daily work permits. we cleaned there every month for two years!!!
To get full passes they want to know the in & outs of duck behind, the forms are pages thick.

Nathanael

Airside at heathrow, took us two weeks of security checks, then a week of health and safety inductions and exams.

Our insurance would not cover us so we had to take out a special policy for the three weeks we where on site and BAA ask for £500,000,000.00 cover not cheap.....

Good luck though

Oh and for peoples info Initial Window cleaning are about as good as OCS ha ha
