removing vechicle stains
« on: March 24, 2005, 01:39:33 pm »

good afternoon, i have been asked by a client who is based outside a main road to remove the long term indented exhaust refumes that have stained the sides of his building. The outside is covered with stone and the building is 2 stories high. What process and chemical should i use to safely remove the stains  and what would be the best option to access the stone walls as a public pathway also runs along the building. i havent done any of this before, what size pressure washer do you think will be best. any help apprechaited. What is the best way to appoach this job.

regards

hi reece
if exhaust has acually damaged the wall i suspect that you are talking about a lime stone. and it is suffering  erosion damage.
i would steer well clear or try to sub to a specialist.
if you can find out accurately what the wall is made of you might be able to get some advice from one of the big chemical companies.
all added up however if pressure washing is not your thing in the first place you will have enough trouble just getting the washing part sorted so here we go again either walk away or try to sub it because once you get past washing a bit of flat concrete there is actually a lot to know about pressure washing
best of luck
pm  me with some details if you want

reece,

i have sent you a pm,

but you dont want to be pressure washing, without knowing 100% what the substrate is, you could push surface contaminants further into the substrate as opposed to washing it out.

i have sent you a pm regarding this, i look forward to hearing from you.
