Credit Crunch Tip No 3
« on: February 03, 2009, 08:27:56 pm »
This one is not for the faint hearted.

Do  work for FREE.

1) no one likes to get anything for free
2)at very least you will get a great refferal in writing
3)you will get leads to other work
4)as a old carpet cleaner Once said the more I do for free the more paid work I get from this .

AS nike said Just do it

Neil i assume you are suggesting that we would find a very prominent area(say an office reception that really needs doing) do it for free so that all that see and smell it would be potential paying clients.Oh yes and have you tried this brave move yourself and what were the results.Regards Alan (swindon)

I have tried it and it does work.
I did a b&b they wouldn,t except to pay me nothing but paid me x amount but had me back within 3 months for more work which I gradually increased prices.

once said to a custy I will clean a trashed area for nothing if you are happy I will do the rest for x amount  she was pleased with results and got the job for the rest.

ps colin when you try it let me know and you can come round  ;D

People feel they have to reciprocate,  I have found some not keen to take FREEBIES  and it can on occasion be counter productive.

I tried this some time ago, linked to " even if you can't use us right now can you refer us to a couple of friends / relatives "

It was based on the JP " miss you " letter.

Did a number of small areas, but felt it was a lousey return for the effort.

It could however, be very good for commercials.

Some great ideas i think coming out now.I am not sure its acredit crunch tip but i have found that offering part protection seems to work regularly. That is offer to protect the hall and lounge etc. or whatever the customer wants really Regards Alan(swindon)

i don't know why carpet cleaners think they should give something away for nothing, have you ever seen an advert for a plumber or electricain or a painter/decorator offering work for nothing, can you see it, 'let me rewire your lounge for nothing, if you like it, pay me to rewire the kitchen' i don't think so, the mind boggles, no wonder customers ask for cheap prices all the time, we advertise that we work for nothing,

Even big companys do it, taken from the daily star

Buy one car get one free

Desperate times call for desperate measures – and today one car dealership in the region was telling customers: “Buy one car and we’ll give you one free”.

The supermarket-style offer is being run by Vision Vauxhall at Walton on the Hill in Stafford. Anyone buying a Vectra Exclusiv CDTI five-door for £16,570 during January will receive a 2008 model Corsa 1.0 Breeze, worth around £7,000, thrown in for nothing

neil, doesn't that advert smack of desperation to you, i would want to have the car parked on my drive before i parted with any money. i have never visited any forums for other trades but i would imagine they keep their prices up and don't have to talk about 'cowboy' prices all the time.
if you want to be classed in the same league as a pizza-parlour, go for it, i wont,
