Going Commando
« on: February 02, 2009, 07:23:09 pm »
I have given up wearing any gloves apart from woolen Finger cut off ones, as i just find them a bloody hinderance. You can't trad so well as your finger dexterity is reduced, they all seem to leak, tear or are not waterproof. I Cant adjust the vari-flow controls with them properly. When wet theyre a pain to keep taking off and putting on again.
Even in this weather after about 3 cleans my hands tend to warm up anyway.

The only thing that did bother me, big time, was the risk of developing athritis in my fingers later on in life as a result of the cold and wet  affecting the joints, but having researched the causes it doesnt mention cold or wet, but repetitive movements, obesity,[not seen many obese W/C's} or the aggravation of previous sports type injuries. Got some of these in my knees so thank god I am WFP as I think ladder use would kick off joint probs for me.
Do any of you guys shun gloves?

had the unger gloves lasted two weeks rubbish, had the wet suit gloves lasted six weeks before the thumb split.
best i find is 3.99 heavy duty work gloves (sainsburys ) with thinnish nylon gloves underneath for a bit of warmth. still going strong after 4 months.

Have been using black marigold type gloves with a thin glove liner for the past couple of weeks, not too bulky but still warm and dry.

Dave.

Pingu, Dave out of interst what made you go to Netherlands?
My mum is from Amsterdam originally, came over here as a tot. How easy was it to set up business there, ie do they have regular Window cleaning like we do in UK.
I imagine that 99.9% speak English anyway, and they tend to like the British. So I imagine you pick up work quite easily.

Went to Thailand single had a great time for about a year teaching diving and such like then hooked up with a Dutch girl for about 2 years then thought hey lets go back to reality...and here we are  ;D

Window cleaning very much like the UK but most of my customers are 8 weekly oppsed to 4 weekly which seems to be the norm in the UK.

Most do speak English and most of my work is by leaflets or from recommedation.

How easy to set-up....very easy...

The Dutch love their paperwork but as long as you do everything how they want it...you'll be fine.

Cheers
Dave.

p.s sorry to steer this thread off course for a while.
