Company shut down

Just thinking how lucky we are getting work at the mo as just seen the news about the car firm honda shutting down till summer :o

I do remember the last slow down but dont think it was this bad in the early 90s.

We will prob get many of these guys who take early pay offs come maybe into our line of work ???

Yes but they are still on full pay, so hope things pick upfor them.

Morning guys i live in swindon so Honda is where lots of friends and family work and i believe they get their basic for 2 months then a percentage(60 i think) for the other 2.My nephew works shifts and overtime so will lose loads of money.We have just had the woolworths distribution centre close down completely so there are loads of people looking for non existant jobs now.This town has always been great for work(thats why honda came in the first place)but now its struggling like the rest.Regards Alan (swindon)

Believe me the 90s were bad

Do not forget the closure of the Coal Mines Steel works and most of British industry in the 80s

used to live in Abingdon Lost MG Cars in the 70s
After we moved Cowley car plant went etc

To be repaced by Finnancial Advisors etc look whats happened to them

Lorne Spicer Finnancial expert on BBC has gone bankrupt

It's intriguing to wonder if the current downturn will drive significantly more people in CCing than would normally be expected.  Like some other trades, this business 'appears' easy, but when you get to the face of it, it's anything but, and the risk factor is sometimes uncomfortably high (e.g. a new carpet may be the only solution to a disaster rather than a repair or a patch-up).  I guess others who experienced the early 90's slump (or even the early 80's slump) could add to our curiosity.

I started on my own ( worked for other firms before) in 1992 and it was hard to get going so I took a part time job so I could build the client vase but I couldn't tell you if it was hard or not as I had no customers to begin with.

Only trouble with some new starters is that they charge too little and I mean silly money, all because they were on £10 an hour before they think they will be on the same money charging £20 a carpet etc only thing is a new starter doesn't alway think that they are worth the big tickey if they have little experience so it is catch 22.

A lot of people wanting to start up by leasing are being refused finance at the moment. If you have been trading for over 2 years there doesn't seem to be a problem.
