Collecting and husbands...
« on: January 29, 2009, 10:03:51 pm »
I know 9 time out of 10 husbands dont want us to clean the windows but they can be so rude.

Got to one tonight and i was like "hello window cleaner"
Get the look "yeh...." real short
"Cleaned your windows the other day"
"yeh....."
"just collecting the money?"
"i aint got any money"
"ok"

He was really ambrupt (spelling?) Stood there feeling really embarassed, theres no need for them to be so rude.

Yeah ive got a few like this but I give them back exactly what I get.
One tells me not to bother no more as he will do em, so next month I go back I knock on door and missus comes out and I ask if she wants em done as hubby said leave it, and she says yeah he told me what he had said, but he wont do em , so carry on doing them,. She then said she was going out so when finished knock and he'l pay you.
He comes out all sheepish, pays me, I just smile at him take me money and walk off.
Love it!!

Abrupt(if ya wondered) when am i gonna get the title of CIU spellchecker?lol Mate, sometimes people and quite often, insignificant men(in my experience too) raise their ugly head. It's probably nothing personal at all. Just the run o the mill control freak who frequents in physical matrimonial activities,if ya know what i mean. I think i've built up a psychological profile of people like this. Just nasty twats. Me? I'd move on. Ok, fellow comrades, slaughter me   :-X

"i aint got any money"

So you take a step forward, have plenty of eye-contact, and say, 'I will take a cheque...'

If there in I always give them the choice of paying there and then or sending a cheque, I hate it when they are running around raiding the kids piggy banks just to pay, I really am very relaxed about payments and I feel my customers respect that and pay promptly anyway, and I always have a steady flow of cheques through the post and very few problems.

I also feel that if they regularly don't have cash around and your at the door demanding it they are more likely to say forget it.

In 24 years of window cleaning, I have never gone round collecting so have not encountered this. Either they pay me when I do the job, so if the husband is there when you clean they feel part of the process so have no problems or I never see the husband - just a cheque in the post.

I have also found that quite often it is the husband that initiates the WC process as they want a 'way out' of doing it themselves. This is exactly what I have done, I arranged for another window cleaner to clean my windows once a month and I pay him by standing order. Means they get done regularly and I do not get nagged. It means that I am always glad to see the window cleaner.

I agree about the husbands thing. They're a pain.

Another thing that happens is when the bloke sees you when you turn up, and it's the wife you know, not him...
More often than not he says "no thanks mate!" >:(
