New business
« on: January 28, 2009, 06:57:36 pm »
Hi,
I am new to this forum, I am looking into the possibility of starting up as a window cleaner. I have done bits and pieces in the past but never as a full time career.  I live in the midlands/shropshire area and are hoping to cultivate some business. Firstly though, I need to look into equipment.  Would it be better to go with a van mounted system and use trad gear aswell or just go down the trad route to start? What sort of price would you pay for startup kit? What type of filter system would be required as i live in a hard water are?

All help would be grateful

First things I have to ask you is are you sure you want to be a window cleaner or is this a passing faze, second would be somewhat from your first answer if you are really wanting to do this, what is your budget as this what determine the answer to the next question.

I will provide my honest opinion to ways:

YOU want to do this full time, long term: Van mount, ro and di 4040 if money allows, trolley and a merlin or 300gpd with di if money is tight and trad gear so you cover bases.

IF YOU ARE TOYING WITH IT: trad gear only as this would save you money because window cleaning is not the best or easiest in the world..

Please dont feel im being negative just answering with what you have written, answer a few more things like do you really want to make this work, what funds do you have to make this work and third what motivation do you have.

More people will answer with a little more detail, if you really want to do this there are loads of us to help you with info.

Hi Chaps, thanks for the inpt.

At the moment the budget is tight, credit crunch and all that. I have a small van that i use at the moment so i could stash the kit in there.

The difficult decision is whether to jump in with both feet or try to build up a round in spare time and weekends.

The cold has never bothered me, my philosophy is ' If its cold work harder'
and i work mostly out doors at the moment

do you know of any companies that do demos on WFP systems because i would like to try before ii buy.

No you wont get a demo. Phone cleantech and ask for what you need-300l tank, pump, pole. purifier- on a budget 2k might do it.

The demmed systems are expensive.

We are not in the mood to help much as everyone and his brother is starting up, not your fault, but not ours either. The competition is now fierce so think hard before you commit.

Hi jaffa welcome to the forum.

I would start with trad only, £200 will set you up and if all goes well then go wfp after that.

if business is too slow then you've only blown £200 and not £5k
I've never been to bed with an ugly bird but I've woken up with loads!
