business cheques
« on: January 26, 2009, 09:10:08 pm »
I have started leaving sae for customers that are out when i do their windows and ive forgot to put who to make them payable to!

I dont have a "business account" (trying to save a bit of dough!)

Ive been paying cheques into my current account when people have been giving me cheques, because they have been making them payable to me personally.

Now i have a few cheques that have come in with the business name on them and ive just rang my bank ( Nationwide) and they say that there is nothing i can do aprt from open a business account?

Do you guys know any different?

Cheers Dave

Yes they can make you open a business account because  well....you are using it as a business account with your personal account.
So business accounts cost. You claim that as an expence at the end of the year.
Mixing business money with personal can make a right mess of sorting out your accounts at the end of the year.
Get professional and do it right basically.

Hate to burst your bubble, but when i opened my business account i asked if any cheques made payable to my business name before it was opened were bankable  and they said no they will be void because the cheque is dated before the account exsisted.

When your cheque is written out to your business name, at the side of your business title, on top line of the cheque, write your own name beside it and present it to your bank, as you would do normally.  Do not try to alter anything previously written etc.
