MATTRESS CLEANING MARKET
« on: January 26, 2009, 11:36:38 am »
Hi All, thanks for reading.  I subscribe to a publication that promotes new business ideas and this month they ran a feature titled

"Whoever heard of making 800 a week cleaning bed mattresses".

So I set about doing some research this weekend, since there are over 140 million mattresses in the UK alone the market potential is huge however I'm puzzled as to why there are not that many people in the UK doing this or promoting this service either on google or in my local yellow pages.

Is it embarrassment on the client's part, we all have stained mattresses or that the equipment on the market is just not good enough I don't know??

To make this work thinking PR, direct sales and incentives to get people to agree on both the commercial and residential side ...

Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated...

thanks all

Do not waste any money on this.
Ask yourself, have you ever thought of paying someone to clean your matress.
Do any of your friends or family pay someone to clean their matresses.
The answer is no.
There is no market for this , believe me we have tried.
Once you advise people that it is generally impossible to remove stains that are more than a week old they lose interest.
Even hotels who have hundreds of matresses and pay hundreds of pounds for them will only have them cleaned when someone wets the bed and they can charge it to their bill.
Even the asma angle does not prompt any business.
Cheers

David (fenman) is quite correct.
In the 18 years I have been a carpet cleaner I have only been asked to clean a handful of mattresses - 2 of them were last year in the same house.

Their carpets are not getting cleaned regular enough - and they can see them. Mattresses have no chance.
