WFP ruining painted frames
« on: January 24, 2009, 03:23:07 pm »
Does this happen, I just had a call from someone asking if id be willing to do her windows trad as her last window cleaner ruined her frames after 2 cleans, I explained that i think she may of had a bad experience but id never heard of this, she gets her frames painted once a year (posh house) so i said when she is due her next paint job im willing to come round before and do a clean to show her they will be fine, I also asked if rain effects them and she said no ? (apparently he asked her about new putty when he 1st did the job)

I had one a few months ago where she complained about my brush was ruining and taken off paint,I did not clean them after they were painted but the rain must have loosened up some parts, anyway I showed her the brush I use for her house,it is very, very soft, she had her windows painted every year and obviously done again by a cowboy ,when I started on her first window I seen small flakes of paint running down the small panes and I will not do them any other way ,if I did them trad I will be there all day so I told her he did a rubbish job and I don't want to be responsable for damaging her paint work.
It can ruin the frames if there is dodgy paintwork,I refuse point blank to do some houses even trad as I am afraid they will cave in if I put a scrim to them,be careful because they will have you for new windows! :o

I used to use an Ionics brush, that was rubbish for georgain windows, i since use a flocked gardiners SL brush for all my work including geogian - its great, its so soft it doesn;t affect the paintwork unless it damaged already.

If the paint is flaking then WFP will flick off the flakes, but it doesn't damage frames. How could doing the windows once a month be to blame for ruining the paint when it rains most weeks in this country.

Had one guy get me to clean a leaded window that literally wobbled in it's frame, I began suspect he was trying to get me to replace it eventually. So I stopped cleaning that one window. He did ask if I had damaged it the cheeky swine, and then I was delighted to tell him I hadn't cleaned it since the second time. Nice try I thought

any georgin panes we do flakes of paint always comes off and is left on the ground below the window( im talking small flakes here )and the customers notice it and automaticaly blame the brush but if you remember back to when you where traditional cleaning these with a chamois or microfibre rinsing your cloth out in the bucket at the end of the house the bucket was always full of flakes too only they coulnt see it sometimes you need to explain this to them

Neglect the frames on PVC they will look awfull over time, neglect painted windows and they will look worse.I do find that over time if you don`t do frames especially the sills you will give the impression that your ruining them that`s why i do them everytime.

Unfortunately some painters tell customers our system rots the frames and is bad for paintwork. This is a problem.
