Does any body else have their r.o system running 24/7 to keep up with water demand its only a 300gpd.But it is on all the time?

i had a 60 GPD , i now have a 100 GPD unit and its still on 24/7

I have a 300 GPD in my shed and that is on 24/7,I only ever turn it off to refill the rabbits bottle!
If I dont turn it off I get splashed everywhere!

My old 100gpd one was on 6 days a week 24 hours,.. sometimes 7 days.
My new merlin is on 2 days a week most!!

You can upgrade the ro units to produce more.
ro-man does them, he says that the most membranes to use is 3

You can get 150GPD membranes,.. turn a standard 300GPD unit into a 450GPD,... still it's nearly cheaper to get a merlin, or even spend the bit extra for a 4040.

If you are on a meter merlins produce a lot of waste.

How does the merlin work ? How much waste is there ,or is there no waste.
I had a look at the merlin on ro mans site and it's only a pound more than a 300gpd . Whys that is there still a need for the standard ro units ?

Merlins started out at about £500.00 and were hailed as the latest/greatest thing. Couple of years down the line and you can buy one for just over £200. There are good reasons for this.

1:  WASTE. They can chuck out 5 parts waste to every one produced.  So.. to produce 1000 litres you can go through 6000 litres. You can put a restricting valve on to reduce waste but unless you are in a reasonably soft water area you will go through membranes a lot faster and your TDS out will increase and you will use more resin.

2: TDS REDUCTION: They are not as efficient as most of the smaller units or the 40 inch systems. 90% is about what you can expect from them. Those on very good water pressure may get 95% but that's about it.

So.. if you are in a hard water area and on a meter for water they can be very expensive in the long run.

They do have their place. E.G. softish water and no water meter and they can produce water reasonably quickly.

My mains preasure is 35-40 and I don't use a pump so production is very slow.

I run a 300gpd ro unit for two vans that work 4 days a week, runs almost 24/7 I have 2 x 1000 litre tanks for storage, so can even help out a friend who has problems

I used to have a Merlin unit but with my mains pressure (45psi) water came out at 66ppm, 25 litres of resin every 2/3 weeks not good.

I have a 40 40 RO.

I just switch it on when I need water. My ro produces 250 ltrs an hour so 4 hours to fill my 1000 ltr IBC tank.

My Ro produces 0 tds from my water supply which is about 100tds on average.

My mains pressure is 35psi but I use a booster pump to make my ro more effecient, I also have the valve permanetly left on flush,soI could produce water at a faster rate if I wanted to.

My memmbrane is now 20 months old and going strong. I dont understand why more w/cleaners dont use a 4040 ro.

My 40" produces 500 litres  in 4 hours as I  have one in the van mount but the booster pump on the system drains the battery so it is just as easy to fill from my static system every morning instead of a dead battery during the day.
