How can you spot a good cleaner??
« on: January 21, 2009, 10:16:41 am »
ANY help on this would be appreciated. I don't seem to have much joy when it comes to employing people. I've now had 2 lady cleaners who have lasted to the end of 2 cleans!! Took a new cleaner on a e.o.t clean yesterday and she was awful, had her in the bathroom 3 times showing her bits she'd missed hairs everywhere, paintwork still with stuff on - I had to go over all her work, then she said I don't think its for me!!! :o
It's hard to find a cleaner who is good at their job and sticks at it. Got to get someone else now and I'm finding it tricky.  ???

Take up references and check if they have any qualification i.e BICSc or NVQ

Hi Gerry I know what your saying - qualifications may seem a little extreme though - definetely don't think they'd stick it if they had qualifications. I had a good reference from this 2nd lady so that didn't help either - do you think there is a certain 'group' of people I should go for eg. Mums of school kids, 50+

Training

Show them WHAT you want

Show them HOW to do it

Show them the WAY to achieve it

Explain to them WHY you want it YOUR way

Praise for a job well done

So many people think they know how to clean usually because they clean their own house.

You must demonstrate the way you want it to be and explain why and how it differs from what they do.

ie to mop a floor do they "edge" it first before filling in?

Good Luck

Don't Give Up

Only reason thet will not stick with it is if the pay is not realistic, I have 4 cleaners covering 2 sites who have BICSc Stage 1 & 2 and NVQ level 1 & 2. I pay well above min wage and my clients recognise this and are willing to pay for the continuity

This is so true gordonswindows,....many cleaning contractors/firms do not always make it clear as to what needs doing and why within a given time frame with the tasks involved.
Teaching cleaning techniques is also important for various reasons.

Also sometimes even the most experience cleaners miss a bit now and again, plus sometimes the work load can be too much given its a physical job!

I clean various police stations as part of flying squad of cleaners who don`t turn up because of sickness etc (call us the `A` team), and even those stations vary in tidyness depending on the occupants and current cleaning staff.

If you pay well above the minimum wage, then you will have a better chance finding cleaners with the right professional attitude and pride,..............Im looking for work and am available to work in the Romford, Essex area depending on times/days etc should anyone be interested.
