Keep getting calls from new window cleaners
« on: January 21, 2009, 08:18:00 am »
Asking
Have you got any work going spare we can have?
Have you got any jobs going?
Do you need a hand?

Must be from Yell or Yellow pages, when do the customers start ringing.  Any one else getting the same?

Simon.

I've had two phonecalls asking for employment and one CV sent through the post.  None of these were solicited.  The CV sender listed a guy I know as one of his previous employers.  I noticed a gap in employment history.  Turns out the sender did time for attacking someone with a hammer.  Anybody can make changes in their life so I don't hold it against him but I couldn't employ someone who had done that.  Can just imagine it "You're fired"  Whack !!

Alex.  The daft thing was that the guy I know who used to employ this character described him as a "nice guy".  He then went on to tell me how he always used to thrash the van and that he hammered someone and went inside for it.  "Nice guy though." he said.
I'm just wondering what someone would have to do for him to regard them as not very nice.

Sometimes guys are very nice indeed but they suddenly flip big time - ex-wives seem to be a good trigger!
It's a game of three halves!

He might have made a good employee, I'm sure he could have banged out the work and nailed every job.  Boom boom.

Seriously, everyone can make the changes to their behaviour if they want to badly enough.  I just wouldn't have been prepared for me to be the one to take the risk.  Not that I have enough work to take somebody on in the first place.  It does show up the need for vetting and, in such situations, I do see a benefit to licensing.  But to me, someone would need to be free of violent crime for a good few years before I would consider it.  Even then I would want to know details of any therapeutic help they received to make those changes.  It's easier just to take someone on who doesn't have such a history.
