I was cleaning windows above a conservatory roof yesterday when there was a huge flash of lightening not far from me and then an enormous clap of thunder. Did a quick mental risk assessement (holding carbon fibre pole etc) and have never collapsed my slx so quick.

Been there myself, holding a Super-Lite mk1 it had an insulated base section, but as it was pouring down with rain I knew it would make no difference. I watched the lightning get closer and closer from across the horizon and chickened out about 10mins before it reached me. It was raining so hard by then that I would have given up anyway. Waited 15 mins till it passed and then carried on.

he must of had his rubber wellies on and thought it would protect him

When fishing down the back of the island , we always fish through the thunder storms. Carbon fishing rods just the same ! They haven't been hit yet  although we don't hold them all night but they are there for the lighting to hit.
