Water pump
« on: January 17, 2009, 09:29:41 am »
I'm after some advice, i need a small portable water tank say 25litres with a electric pump to pump water to a tile grout saw the needs water to cool the blade and suppress the dust. The saw is like a small circular saw, so any of you guys have any ideas from where i can purchase one from? Thanks Andrew

If im thinking about the same style of tile cutter with a diamond tipped rotating blade then im not 100% sure if they are waterproof  :-X

But if you have one that is you would be looking at something that pumps only a very small amount of water, mabie look for something from an aquarium shop? As any of the pumps that gets used for WFP or suchlikes are only going to cost quite a bit or be far too powerfull for the type of job that you want it for.

Yes they are waterproof 110volt and the have a water feed that goes onto a tap, but if im working in a bathroom sometimes it wont fit on the tap so im looking at something portable i could use to pump the water.

What about a pump up pressure sprayer? I guess it depends on how long you are looking to use it for.

If it has to be powered, maybe a car windscreen washer pump?

B+Q sell them, they have a small water reservoir at the bottom of the unit that the circular saw blade runs through cooling it down as its used; or any tiling outlet.

Some of you are getting the wrong end of the stick let me explain in a bit more detail. I do stone and tile restoration work and sometimes we need to remove the grout on tiles aready fixed to walls and floors  so these saws are designed to remove grout but you have to connect them to a tap and sometimes you cant fit them to bathroom taps and i dont want to run a hose pipe through the house so this is why im looking for something portable i can use to do small areas, about 25 litres and a pump i can switch on and of wheni need it.

a small caravan sub pump

something like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/8L-12v-Comet-Submersible-Water-Pump-Caravan-Motorhome_W0QQitemZ160309792736QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Campervan_Caravan_Accessories?hash=item160309792736&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1296%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

its a 8 L per min

BUT
if you put a Y piece in the OUT FLOW and then run 1 of the ends to the place where its needed and then the other end back into the 25 L tank, you will only be using 4 L per min

job done

just thought of the perfect solution!

Buy a small decorative indoor water feature and use the pump from that, it should pump around 1 Litre per minute, perfect for what u want it for and all of them will have a small hose connection with a small hsoe already attatched for it to pump the water to the feature. Hose is about 4-5mm

IDEAL!
