i have  been trading for 7 months now and all i do leaflet about 2000 house per month
and have about 20 leads
we have built up regular domestic cleans and window cleaning that way and in my spare time drop more leaflet

Is there a local advertising magazine in your area thats delviered to householders for free?

We have something called 'on your doorstep' and that generates a few enquiries/clients every month.

Also, get a good website, we get 50% of clients from internet searches.

Other than that, I agree john, its shoe leather and leaflets I'm afraid.

Cheers

I started in October and now have about 12 clients a week. I have spent money on leaflet drops and advertising and have had a few clients from this but it is now very quiet. Does anyone make a decent living from domestic cleaning. I was a teacher earning 35k a year, it would take me years to earn that running a domestic cleaning company. I didn't realise how hard it would be to get clients and to create decent profit margins

We started off doing regular domestic cleaning and soon realised that it was not worth the hassle, lots of work involved. By the time you pay all the expenses and your/staff labour is there actually any profit left. We no longer provide this service due to the stress I was under for very little money.

Hi Dione,

Dont give up! But change your market...!

Go commercial and you can make money... I cant say what area is like as I live way down in south of england.

I too once went domestic cleaning. It was Hell! Thought it was the biggest mistake ever.

That was until I went commercial! Now its the best move ever. You will still get hasle but no where near as much.

So give it a try, you can still get cleaning jobs in commercial sector during the day but most of them is outside of office hours.

Again each area is different so on average you minimum charge ph should be around £10 small hours more money £15.00 ph etc

Its still hard work.

best of luck

Hi - I would also suggest contacting letting agents to see if you can do the cleans on empty properties, if you can get in with a few of them that would bring in a fair bit of work for you.If you fill in your email address on your profile I will email you.

Hi All,

I agree its very hard to build up i have been building my business for year and have 6 very good office cleaning contracts and about 16-17 houses a week, i went down the route of letting agents for E.O.T cleans etc, worked a treat for me, im lucky as i also set up doing landscape gardening at the same time so it gives me all year round income, dont get beaten and disheartened as times are hard you just need to build up a good reputation and the business then works for you, i have never advertised in papers, yell or anything else, if you work hard with leaflet drops and phone calls you get a good return also i email over 200 companies a month, around my area, B2B is alot more profitable even if your own your own, each of my contracts is worth well over £700 a month, dont go in to low but also research your competition, ring them up for prices etc, its gives you a target area to quote by, also offer your clients something in return for referred work, 15% discount and all that, give them reasons to use you, its a dog eat dog business but you have to be willing to bite...

I would only post flyers in affluent areas.

I am offering a free service to cleaners presently whereby I find them contracts. It's cheaper than flyers that's for sure!

If you're in the Dunstable - South Beds area, it may be worth a peep.
http://www.dreamcleaner.co.uk/page_1232133737015.html

I also do a website creation service for just £50 which can help get domestic solo cleaners started.

Meanwhile other tips include networking with cleaners in your area. Established cleaners are often offered extra work through word of mouth but they can't take it on. They could be very useful to you!

Good luck

You MUST get Insurance, that's the 2nd enquiry you've had for work and they have asked about Insurance ::)
