Doesn't acetic acid accelerate sodium mets reaction ?

Hi Guys

Mark, Acetic acid would do the trick.

Citric and acetic are both weak acids as opposed to Sulphuric, hydrochloric etc

I prefer Citric because it is a solid at room temp and very readily soluble in water as is sodium met.

It is important to go carefully as bl;eaching is rarely reversible and also sodium met can be an asthma sensitiser.

Cheers

Doug

Hi Mark

From the homebrew shop with your sodium met.

Mixed together they are used to sterilise glass jars

did one of those proper dye stains today. pink. same colour as my new sweat shirts.

sprinkled on sod mets in powder form exactly where the stain was, about a 3 inch diameter circle.
placed a terry towel over and blasted for a few seconds with a steamer, kept lifting the towel up so i knew where to blast, when powder was wet i removed towel and blasted direct with steamer, hey "fckin" presto.

this was a wool carpet, cream colour, stain was reduced to a very pale yellow and could hardly be seen, customer ;D ;D ;D, ear to ear.

definately better than the iron version and much safer imo.

cheers for making me think mike.

We used to do this years ago with a product called 'oblit' I guess procedures sometimes change and then revert back.

Nice one.

it was just like mike said.
it just vanished before our eyes, and this was proper dye in wool.
do you think it would have the same effect with man made fibres?, cant see why not.

oh you mean the sod met.

said casually to my mate who was helping out, have a whiff of that, (sod mets in powder form in a small plastic container) the jolt back nearly snapped his head off, pmsl.

anyhoo
no smell left as it was all thoroughly rinsed out.

give it a go if youve got a steamer,

Is it sulfite or sulphate, thought it was the latter

Do you just spray it on and dry it or do you need to terry towel it off and extract.
