I shaved myself before going in, had three different nurses come and check I had done it right. I felt quite proud.
Good luck mate, you will probably ache for a week or two, be nice to get rid of that big lump though. Dai

cheers guys

i had a phone call on friday morning, can you come in early, yes sure, then they asked when was the last time i ate

well they said i couldnt eat after 8.00 for 12.30 afternoon sessions, so i ate at 10 to 8, thus they could do the op before 1.00, but asked me to get down early anyways, as i would be first, turned out that my hernia was the biggest op of the day, so they wanted more recovery time for me, they were right, the whole of the day surgery was empty by the time i left at 7.00, i was the last around, i had my own room though, all in all i was very impressed with the hospital ( though i did choose it, i turned down the 2 who were more local to me )

it all went well, it was keyhole they made 3 small cuts around the belly buttom, even though the hernia was right at the bottom of my groin, came around and was in such pain, it really was the worse pain i have suffered, had a bit of mophine that helped,

i had the dressings changed today, it turns out that keyhole has the least cuts / cutting, BUT its the hardest on your body, my insides are in a right pain, still taking the max painkilers and its just taking the edge off it :(, they have to push all your insides around to work in the small space

i tell you what, ive never felt pain like this, i clean the windows for a retired RAF bloke, he was sent over to orlando to do a "work placement " with NASA in the 70's, he did the space program at Canaveral, he also test flew flighters for the UK RAF and the USA airforce, he said and i qoute " i had my hernia done a few years back, i know pain and it was painfull " i didnt expect it this bad though

cheers guys

There is one thing with keyhole, you will heal a lot faster, I had mine done years ago and it was one hell of a slash, they put some kind of mesh inside that your tissue can grow through, it makes it a lot stronger than it was originally. Take it easy mate, it will all be worth it in the end.

Well done Matt, how long do you reckon you'll be off work? Can't see you humping those full containers about before the weekend.  :-\

Nothing of course, its not a nice thing that Matt has to go through and he needs the 4 weeks to recover in which is my point. If I was to just take 4 weeks off just because I feel like it then I would always feel quilty that I'm not working when I could be. But if you've had an opp and need to recover then there is nothing that you can do but rest for that amount of time.

thanks guys for the posts  ;)

well 1 week on ( this time last week i was being prep'ed for the op )

im not sure 4 weeks will be enough, im still in a rather large amount of pain :(

ive just been to have the dressings changed and the nurse said " ive known people who have been off for 10 weeks PLUS "  :o :o :o on the plus side, 2 of the cuts have healed the last is still open and bleeding, she said she was concerned about it as 1 week is too long
