WC Coach P/T 3 whats in a name?
« on: January 05, 2009, 04:49:29 pm »
Whichever way you want to put it, a different approach, or in the words of calosdaze's blog ' a sure fire way to turbo charge the marketing of your window cleaning business', the coach has surely chucked a handgrenade into the midst of our little world.

I have never seen so much faltering and nonesencical self justifaction in all my life. I don't see the coach as a threat and sometimes it pays to listen and not know better.

It got me wondering about the actual names of our businesses. Is a clever name best, the name of an area, or simply our own name from a marketing perspective?

I think it's a case of what you put in you get out. If you look hard enough you will find the info you need to make it work, I did and it's getting better all the time.

How about 'Darrens Smart-Arse Window Cleaners (Leicester) ' ::)

Incorporates everything.

No?

Painless perfection spelt paneless is pretty good, it's both a mission statement and a proclaimer of  benefits.Meanwhile it also has a pretty clear and specific WC reference. Not a lot of two word combinations do all of that.

What about Gutter mouth as an add on services name?

Mmmm... I think it has conotations of torture, illness and PAIN!

MacDonalds have done well considering it's a Jock name and has nothing to do with burgers!

Good to think about this, for sure.

I chose that name almost 6 years ago because I needed something, and I liked the pun and subconscious "superior workmanship" angle (perfection).

If I had to start from scratch, though, I wonder if I would choose a name more focused on my USP, and the key benefits that I bring to the client.

PrivacyWindowCleaners.com

FastandFriendlyWC.com

CheapandQuickWC.com

freewindowcleaningtiverton.com

loveitorfreeWC.com

Know what I mean?

These examples are not that great, but I think something along those lines would be even better than a standard approach.

I would of thought that :
Bussines-Marketing.com
Would have been better for you as you say it's marketing that you are good at .

Good point.

My thoughts on the oakley flier.

First off it was very good. If it had been an exam I would have marked it highly, that's not to say that it couldn't have been improved. The word count was high for instance and some of it could have been said in inverted comma's as a quote from the proprietor (matt) along with a mug shot. Also the heirachy of benefits was slightly muddled. Clarity being important.

I'm surprised that coach hadn't seen a foldover type before, amd of course only the front part would be seen first. The things i did like was the contact no on every page, and the emphasis on the area you work in. I didn't like the photo's, but you had blanked two out, i hope that one of these was of you and one was of the van (brand recignition they will have seen it in the area).

I would imagine that coach will have a different take.

Thanks Clive.

Your right the word count was high. I may alter that in time, however, Im sure my world will continue to revolve if I dont do it immediately. The clarity thing is also noted, thanks. It suffices Im sure as it is; it certainly helps to secure residential work. 2 jobs spring to mind. One property that I had  been hoping to secure for a while, owned by an American chap. Id put through cards and small flyers in the place for a a year or two, then this newly designed flyer went in and I got a call the following day. That secured a £140.00 gutter clean and a 6 weekly £28.00 window clean.

Also it was the first point of contact when I secured what I feel is a notable regular job, not so much for the size of it (although its a £255.00 window clean in and out) but for WHO it is  ;)  ;)  ;)

Will be interesting to see what Kevin might come up with.

Yes, what i like about his answers is that they are different. Sometimes very different.

As a first point of contact it does put you across as professional. As you know they see the van, they see you, they see the leaflet, they notice you in the parish mag. And then they catch you one day and say they had mean't to call.

There are lots of people in our areas who have us vaguely in their minds. Because of this i'm wondering if coach's techniques might give them the shove they need. So there is no harm in having all inclusive leaflet that explains your business quite fully, and another of the coach type that comes at it from an angle.

That is of course if you don't mind spending money, which i don't, but i do have to accept that some of the money i spend is wasted. And also sometimes i'm wrong.

Yeah, I figured out the foldover thing...just didn't express myself right, I guess...

Some guys here do the tri-fold, but I am partial to the full-color postcard instead.

You know me so well ;)

Mac on one side of van & Mac on the other, i'm so fast with wfp, to anyone looking on (like low-life, gutter crawling trad cleaners, or indeed anyone not professional enough for my liking) it just blends into one- MacMac!

With a 6'4", bronzed, love machine in the drivers seat of course! (Oh yeah, i've just taken a lad on ::))
