Are you appreciated ?
« on: January 02, 2009, 10:09:07 pm »
Over the last couple of months I have had more problems with awkward customers than I have had for many years.
As I have trained lads up to clean windows, I explained to them that dealing with awkward customers is like pulling up weeds from your garden, if you don't deal with the problem your garden will be full of weeds.
But for years I have not had to cancel a customer, this year I must have canceled half a dozen.
I used to explain to the lads that if you are doing a good job and treating your customers with respect, then you are due respect. If you come across a customer that keeps spoiling your day, then you are better off with out them, so pull the weed out, and cancel them.

Then you come across the lovely old lady that tells you that you are wonderful and she really appreciates the job you do, makes you a cup of tea and a chocolate biscuit, and everything in the world is rosy again.
Don't you just love some of these old dears !!

Christmas is the time when you find out who appreciates you i believe. Still picking up tips today from customers - nice feeling. Some of the old ones went to the trouble of wrapping presents too. Makes up for the less human ones on your round.

I treat people how i like to be treated myself, whoever it is i contract to do some job i need doing.

Treat people with respect the world over and you get respect back, or at least you should, if you dont move on... dont waste your time with unhelpful, disrespectful people.

It's part & parcel of the trade & i would imagine most of us are the same. we have customers that really appreciate us & tell us so & we have some that wouldn't bat an eyelid if we never turned up again. ;)

classic

i dont go out of my way anymore, its sad that in the time ive been at it, ive been messed around and taken for granted, now its they get done when i'm in the area ( unless they pay silly money for the service, then i accept they might mess me around a bit, but thats why they are so well priced )

I received a thank you card for a customer that is out of the country for most of the year they have the windows cleaned every 4 weeks and as soon as they are in the country again they pay in full
I keep the card by the computer and whenever i feel under the weather or cant be bothered i read the card the bit that says 'we always appreciate your service' makes me smile and i get on with it again so some customers do appreciate what we are doing but i would hazzard a guess that most dont even give us a second thought most of the time

Does it matter?

My family and friends give me all the respect, love and warmth I need.

Customers need to give me MONEY.

If you get low and feel a bit down, try pinning up your latest bank statement to the computer....that should give you a nice warm feeling too  ;)
