Well it will take a long time.. but its like this.. 1000 flyers may produce 4 customers.

Thats rough guide, but i would say abut right! However there is always the possibility of luck!

I canvassed once, got 1 custy... out 1000 leaflets, he recomended me to his family got 12 houses out of it! Oh and they have there windows done weekly not monthly so its a good earner.

Good luck

A parish magazine or permanent advert somewhere else.
A free listing on yell.com.
free listing on spick and span.
Working on a saturday in built up areas.
These are free or cheap options.
If you have cash to spend then doorknockers or roundbuilders and the like who come on here could build a round up.

A decent size advert in a free newspaper or the local newspaper, will work as well as leaflets, and someone else will do all the leg work for you.
If you can afford a 1/4 page ad to introduce your services and then follow it up each week with a line advert in the classifieds, will normally produce some work.
Once you have a chance to get a foothold in an area, then you need to wow that customer and find ways of getting her to talk to her neighbours about you, because word of mouth advertising is the best you can get.
Offer her a discount if she can get you 3 - 5 of her neighbours, or a free clean for every new customer she gets you.

Bite the bullet and go door-knocking, you won't regret it.

Don't take any notice of these "no canassers" signs these are aimed at the double glazing and energy suppliers, window cleaners seem to be excempt from this.

You only need to do a few hours a week and you will soon have loads of new customers.  If you still feel that you cannot do this then get someone to do it for you, a piece of advice, don't let them quote, just ask them to get you the leads, you follow up and close the deal, that way you don't get shafted with under priced work and over sell on what you do.

I read once that each leaflet delivered is worth either £1 or £2 pa of work. I am sure that is roughly about right. Obviously depends where you work. I only leaflet or advertise in magazines.

I posted something like that though I reckoned £1 on average.  It won't seem like it for a while as it can take time for things to get rolling with only leaflets.  I wasn't just referring to the direct customers either.  This includes any direct referrals too.  With 1,000 leaflets, it only takes getting say 7 x £15 jobs and 2 x £10 jobs from them or their direct referrals (8 cleans per year assumed).  If they are monthly jobs, it would be even less.  You also get a spattering of one off cleans from leafletting.  Nothing wrong with one offs if you're short of work though they can be a pain if you have a fairly full schedule.

hi Gemma

im not being sexist or pratronising or at least i dont mean to be.

but i can understand your reluctance to door knocking, its the hardest part of building a round.

do you have a friend you can ask to come with you for moral support, leaflet a week before, then you can start by saying have you seen the leaflet i put through your door last week and if so would you like me to quote you for a monthly clean,

just aim to do a few anight, early evening is best

good luck

You have to knock those doors I'm afraid if you want to build it quickly. Leaflet drop just too slow. Just ignore no canvassing signs - that applies more to gas / electric / double glazing. Most they can say is didnt you see the sign - but youve lost nothing by trying

I always knock where these signs are.  Then I wait till I hear someone coming, then turn as though I'm going to walk away.  As the door opens I turn back and say: "Oh! I'm very sorry, I knocked before I noticed your sign....."

They always say: "Oh, that's OK."

Then I give them the spiel ;D

NO CANVASSERS

Ignore! Doesn't apply to window cleaners ;D
