Day time canvassing / leafleting
« on: January 01, 2009, 09:13:08 pm »
Does any body on here do day time door knocking / leafleting.

When I have wanted to grow my residential business I have done most door knocking in the early evening.

How good is door knocking in the day?

Would it be worth employing some one to do this on a day basis or would the results be better just knocking in the evening?

I am but to truly make any money its best to farm out the jobs associated with the business. For example how many successful business owners do their own accounts? or do the secretarial work? I'm not talking one man bands now.

I would still spend my time marketing commercial clients as I do now but for the £10 residential jobs I am considering employing a part time canvasser. it would be madness to post flyers personally when you can get this done for a very small outlay.

matts flyer ...i thiought was very good.... targeting the houses around his round, it had that personal touch...your workers could do that.....

im at a crossroads at the moment...im trying to workout which direction to take....i have a part time employee who is keen and wants to work more for me (hes a  doorman as well on the weekends )
he even doorknocks for me! i think i am going to start letting go and delegating more...trust is the thing ....its so hard to let go of the tools when youve been doing it for years....

I would still have to approve any fliers or instruct how I want a job done though - so yes marketing is still important.

With door knocking the best times is always when someone is at home, if you door knock in the day time you will only get the ladies who look after the home, the home workers and the night shift workers, who won't be amused at being woken up.

The best times I have found is to be between 16.00hrs and 19.00hrs.

The reason for these hours are as follows, at 16.00 the day ladys have picked up their children from school and are at home, the night workers have woken up re-freshed for the day to come and the day workers are coming home.

I would not recommend knocking after 19.00 beause firstly the parents are either eating or enjoying their time with their children before bedtime and secondly the dark nights can be a security issue.

Also when you knock the door always step back from the door by at least 2 paces, a lot of people are less treatened by this than if you are in their face when they open the door.

If you are going to employ someone to door knock then train them to always smile when the door opens and always kept eye contact, the reasons for this are if you smile at someone they will always drop their guard and smile back therefore breaking the ice, keeping eye contact shows that you are trustworthy.

This advice is free of charge but you can make a donation to NSPCC if you like.

Doesn't matter what time of day it is, just sellotape money to your flyers and post them through the boxes - guaranteed results - try it.

I'm going to stick chocolates to mine - that'll get rid of them  ;)
