i am thinking of expanding my round to a big round using canvassers up to a 10k +per month then employing a couple of young lads who can graft and myself in one van all using wfp is there any one out there doing this pulling in in excess of 2k per week for themselves after paying the lads.?ive been in this game for a year and a half now so am relatively new at it but ive had experiance in employing men in other fields of work.and i can quite easily pull in 1k per week on my own any feedback from any succesfull windowcleaners would be very encouraging.cheers j.

I have booked canvassers for this year, a week a month for 6 months starting in Feb, this gives me time to clean it and have some little extra cash available, along side my budget i already have. I have also booked another telesales campaign again, had 4 done so far with some really good results. Ive tried lots of other ways of marketing, ie press, adverts ect ect, but i have found that the best way is to get out there and doorknock and cold call. Adverts worked for a few pressure washing jobs and gutter cleans, ie the ones offs, but didnt work for me on the wc side, apart from the odd trickle. I have two vans on the road at the moment, so in 6 months im looking to have another, fingers crossed.

How much would you be thinking of paying the 2 lads each?

its not as straight forward as you think. lots and lots of money and lots of weeding out of crap custys. don't build to quick. make sure your foundations are solid from the start otherwise you will crumble!!

doing this pulling in in excess of 2k per week for themselves after paying the lads.?

That's a little bit on the optimistic side, in fact it's a lot on the optimistic side.
By the time you've added in all the employing add ons, vehicle running costs, employee insurances, NI contributions (and there's a lot more expenses), for you to net £2k they would probably have to do £4k. Whilst one person might do £1k a week two working together won't do £2k. So you would need two individuals out there, which would require 2 vans and all the costs therein.

Its a bit of a pipe dream I'm afraid. This basic idea in various forms is a recuring theme which comes up from time to time. Its a bit like pyramid selling, it looks reasonable on paper but the reality doesn't match up.

Employing these two reliable hard working blokes is easy, finding them, well thats another story.

Its OK if you can find thousands of nice co-operative customers who live side by side in nice roads with no parking or access issues. Of course they will all be in when you call and will open the door with the money in their hand. Oh yes, and they won't mind paying top money for a splash and dash. Easy really.

The thing that ties all these schemes togeather is the idea that sucess is "all in the marketing" and often there is someone waiting to take money off you to teach you "the marketing".

Well I have been around long enough to know that in this game its all in the window cleaning. You can dress it up and make it look different but at the end of the day if the customers don't the way you do their windows you get dumped. Customers don't like having different people coming to do their windows each time.

Hi J, the best advice I can give you is to stay away from this kind of forum for this type of advice, you sound like an intelligent and motivated kind of bloke who believes in himself. If you think you can do this then I believe you can, most on here are full of doom and gloom, and they will tell you it can't be done, mainly because they can't or don't want to do it themselves so they think that no one else can do it! Go for it my friend the sky is the limit!!!!  :)

ok well ill explain why he wont get 2k a week from 10k turnover a month
straight away you lose 17.5% vat(15%) at the mo thats £1500 at the mo so you have £500 to pay employees ins petrol vehicle cost employees nat ins resin water cost wages holidays the list goes on.

i could break down futrther but there is no chance of you having 2k left!

could you do 10k between 3 of you well yes you can.

turnover 10,000
vat 1,500
vehicle costs 100
Diesel costs 300
payroll 3,500 (35% you would be doing well to keep it at this level, need about 5 employees and 1 admin minimum, probably more to cover for sickness etc)
payroll costs 650 (hol; pay ni etc)
professional fees 25
equipment 100
uniform 20
marketing 500
phone 150
Height Access hire ?
misc 500

balance 2655

possible but that is with no loans or vehicle or equipment repayments, your round would want to be super. Not meant to put you off, but why not aim for 5k first and see if you can do that and make a profit.
