Hi all,

I've decided to skip all of those expensive Carpet Cleaning Chemicals and Equipment in 2009 !

Yes, having heard from 3 different customers in the past week that their carpets can be cleaned with ...Bleach  , It made me think I should give it a go.

Now I can advertise, " Cleaner Carpets and say Goodbye to 99.9% of All household Germs" !

I might have to suggest keeping the Kids and Pets off the Carpets for a bit  longer than usual  , but 'Hey', think of the Profit opportunity 

Seriously though....or did you think I already was ?, has anyone heard of these carpets that can be 'safely' cleaned using bleach ?

The advice had been given to all 3 customers by the retailers, however none of the customers were told
a) How much to use
b) What type of bleach to use

Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Best I wait for your replies before popping out to 'Savers' for some supplies

Hi Guys

Some older PP carpets might bleach so be careful.

I demonstrated at the last CCDO that Tumeric can be 100% removed with neat bleach but you would have to be sure you a a bleach resistant PP carpet to work on !

In reality PP dirties readily and to bleach it all would be both expensive and dangerous so no grest threat to us there

There will always be marketing claims which appear to good to be true, they are.

Hi doug,

I was of course just making a point and won't really be heading down the 'Domestos' route in '09.

My point was to illustrate the things our customers are told...and believe  when purchaing their home furnishings.
They sometimes make it sound as though all our procedures are somewhat wasted when you can just 'stick some bleach on it '

No, I'll be sticking to my well tried and scientifically proven, " Do the Shake n Vac and put the Freshness back " procedure for Carpet Cleaning 

Only 2 weeks to Christmas guys I hope you've all done you're shopping..

Just because a fibre can be safely cleaned with bleach, it doesn't necessarily mean that the carpet can.

Here's a thought that perhaps Doug is best qualified to comment on. As we all know, household bleach MUST NOT be mixed with any other chemicals for fear of producing toxic gases. Now lets take an everyday spillage that contains something like sugar for example. If bleach is added, could this produce toxic gases?

I think these retailers who promote the use of bleach are really not doing themselves any favours. There are to many things that can go wrong ie, accidents, dripping it onto something expensive, getting it on themselves, kids playing on it etc. Bleach has got to be one of the worst chemicals for the customer to handle and who are they going to blame if things go wrong? the retailer.

I agree will all that has been said, it just encourages people to do silly things.

As for the bleach reacting with carpet contaminants, then it would have to be something very reactive such as a strong acid to cause problems and that is of course highly unlikely.
