Business name... serious or with a gimmick?
« on: November 30, 2008, 11:54:27 pm »

well i use my initials only, but my van is being sign written shortly,

and as i have run out of leaflets , i thought that maybe this is a good time..

i am thinking of changing my business name, as i have only been going a couple of years i dont think i am well known enough , for it to affect me in a negative way.

we all see business names every day, shop fronts, on vans and trucks etc....... for example... on a van if you saw.....

a.c. plumbing specialist..... or

paul the plumber

or can i give an example of window cleaning.

Easyreach window cleaning services.

B.L Window cleaning services.

which stands out better,? in your opinion.

and if pushed, which would you say is the more professional looking/sounding.

please dont say it doesnot matter as long as you give a good service.

advertising is important, and i just want it to look right.

Thanks

pingu

Hi Gazza...I have gone with a large orange frog on the the front, back & both sides of my vech as I thought that standing out would be of real benifit.

I am mainly domestic and the van gets recognised and the more than I am around the more people will see it and hopefully will get me extra business.

But one thing I have noticed....I notice that young kids seem to like it and point it out to their mummies....perhaps this will help in getting me known even further.

But having something a little unusual have worked for many companies....I mean look at Virgin...who would have thought that would work and how's about Apple?

There is nothing wrong with combining the serious info with something a little different to stand out, you have to have something that draws the eye in a pleasant way to your van...then they'll read what you're about.

Just have a look at advertising all around you...and look at the different ways companines get your attention.

Cheers
Dave.

I use Dolphin Window Cleaning, and thought it wouldnt work myself at first (wanted something with an aquatic sort of feel, and something clean? that make sense??)  Anyway it seems to work for me, i have a logo that just says Dolphin, and it gets recognized between website and leaflets, cant wait to get trailer sign written soon, and a van one day soon too, so yeah, dont necessarily think of the name of a window cleaning type title, ie easyreach as you said, id be different but catchy and brand yourself - look online at some of the logos, etc of some of the biggest brands in the world. Like pingu says, apple, virgin, The Big cleaning companies have names that make people think they are massive and inspire trust ie MITIE, and OCS (one complete solution),

Good Luck, let us know how you get on,

If you want to create a logo, try this:

Brand seems to work for most, my field is Carpet Cleaning so may be different from windows!!

Added my logo in 2006 as never had anything other than 'Straker Cleaning' ......... always asked about general and window cleaning so i thought i would be more specific ......... the logo was added and always gets conversations going about its significance  ::)  People recognise it from a distance now so it has done its job 2 years on!! My whole logo was done in 20 minutes with logo software off eBay (£4.99) and now features on van, paperwork, websites and all workwear.

When I was setting up I was going to use "Something Window Cleaning", but in the long term didn't want to limit myself to just window cleaning so chose the name "Southern Cleaning Services"... It just gives me the scope to add more cleaning services as and when I require.

when you say it cuts out the general/window cleaning enquiries,... does that mean you dont get as many calls for window cleaning etc...as you would if you named it ........ window cleaning services. etc...

Same here. My business name is K-Klean Cleaning services. It works for me because the name is unique. I list all the services that I do on my van too.

name it after the town you work in and get the website to match xxxxx window cleaning.co.uk
it'll get you up the rankings a bit when anyone searches for a 'window cleaner in xxxxx'.
