Just leave them until the spring
« on: November 25, 2008, 09:32:29 pm »
I had 2 custies out of about 300 that don't have the windows done in the winter, but this year what with the credit crunch a couple more have tried it on. My reply was that I can't operate like that, this is my livelihood not just a beer money fiddle. I politely said to them what would you say if your employer came to you and said aahh don't bother coming in now till the spring, I don't need you? I can't say to the mortgage provider and gas/electric firms can I stop paying during the winter as my customers don't want me back till the spring.
I said  if you don't want them done fair enough but come the spring the 1st clean will be charged @ an hourly rate which could treble the price. 1 said oh just carry on, another said don't bother coming back, I said ok I'll just offer your space on the round to the next person on my waiting list
Hardly a week goes by without me having to refuse a potential customer, but I can't take on any more ,I'm up to a 6 week rota now
Cheers Rich

Fortunately I've only had one like that about a month ago.  Told her that 1st clean back would be charged x2 as the windows will be so dirty. She gave me a hell of a look but didn't argue.

I drop those who repeatedly cancel on the doorstep, or who begin to move the goalposts re. MY schedule.  Had a Doctor tell me once "not today, it might rain, can you call next week?"  I went back and he did it again, so told him I cant come back cause it "might rain". DROPPED  >:(  7 years at medical school does not imbue common sense.

Hi
My first response is never to be too hasty. I have more that enough work for the winter with it's shorter daylight hours but I could do with more work in the summer.
I have a couple of summer cleans which are discontinued in winter and presently this suits me. However, there have been a couple of troublesome customers and this has proved the right time to drop them.
IMO I think you have to weigh each case individually and then make a descision based on its merits.
