I've been asked to clean car seat upholstery but I've never done this before and wonder what to use/charge.

For example, how do you test whether the material is colourfast and what fabric it is.  Can you use microsplitters and hwe?

Any pointers?

I have found car seats clean well and yes you can hwe /microsplit/use detergents etc ,all subject to usual tests you would carry out on upholstery.

It is a fiddly job and I would charge about £75 for an average car.

Hi Cheryl,
 I valet alot of vehicles and you find as 'Doug' sugests HWE can be used safely on most vehicle upholstery. Use a fabric solution but try not to use any solution with brighteners in it. Hold your hand tool about 12 inches away from the material and spray, lightly srub then extract. Dont over wet at this time of year and if you have got one, a plastic seat cover is advisable when you've finished and ask the customer to take off the cover at night to allow it to dry faster Advise your customer that it could take two days at this time of year for the seat to dry properly so keep hold of the cover until dry. hope this helps need further advice pm me

I only do this for friends and family, as I dont like doing it (to fiddly etc) but when I do, I place Turbo Dryers in the car and the seats and carpet are dry in less than an hour

Thanks everyone.  I turned the job down eventually.  The guy (who's currently replacing the facias on my roof) can get the car fully valetted for 45 quid.  45

I told him what my hourly rate is and he agreed he'd better go to the local valet.

Ah well, at least I know now how to do it.
