I have 1 domestic customer who i clean 4 once a week,and also do their carpets once a yr 2 bed bungalow that has been extended so has bedrooms upstairs very large,all woolen berber,pale colour,carpets are never dirty,struggle to get any colour in the dirty tank,even had me clean freshly laid carpet ! the carpet fitter said that the carpet is showing signs of shrinkage ! i personally don`t know what he is on about,can`t see any visible signs of shrinkage what so ever ? he also said that wet cleaning softens the backing of the carpet ! funny though they have just had the downstairs replaced with a darker wool berber,and when he took all the downstairs ones up i asked if he could see any damage to the backing etc,he said none at all wouldn`t even know it had been cleaned !i am carefull and only use a minimum of sol on them as they are clean ?
Is he winding me up ,he said i should dry clean them the next time

If you've been cleaning "clean" carpets, you've probably never had to get them really wet I'd have thought.  I take it they're going to be a tufted construction, so the only chance of shrinkage would be if they had a hessian back and you'd drenched them.

If they're coming loose from the door bars and adjacent grippers, it's probably a fitting fault rather than a cleaning fault tbh.

Maybe he's trying to make a scape goat out of you?

If you cleaned with a l m system you would not put as much moisture into the backing of the carpet.

So are they claiming for a new carpet mark

I've spoken to so many carpet fitters who have misconceptions about cleaning including many who advise their customer to never have them cleaned. How bad is that.
They are nearly as bad as building surveyors who don't understand dampness, buts thats a different story.

This week a friend of mine brought a  cream 100% wool berber  carpet from a local retailer. She asked if they had anything to remove stains and marks from it and was offered some vanish.

Sounds like a case of "conflict of interests"! You can see the carpet fitter/retailers point of view, us carpet cleaner's are prolonging the life of carpets which is definately not their interest.

Nope not from me but from their insurance company,they spilt a complete glass of red on it,think they just wanted new carpets to be honest  did ask for the bit with the stain on it so i could try red rx and show them i could have got it out for them,would say carpets are around 10 years old.Not had any probs with customer been working for them for 4 years 



Here is a pic i took of the wine,not had time to try getting it out as yet,i have a 4x4 bit that the fitter took out,think he is having a laugh.The first time i cleaned their carpets ,before i had extra hoses,i filled my machine downstairs and tried to lug it upstairs,got half way up and slipped = 40ltr of soloution on the downstairs carpet,sucked it all up again,and it didn`t do any damage so think he is only messing with me

And yes i told the fiter i could have got the red wine out no probs,as have had good results in the past,should have seen his face ,he looked very upset !
told him i would show her the pic of the stain removal,he then went back upstairs and got on with his job !
I used minimum amount of fluid,just one quick spray pass and several dry passes,i vac their carpets every week and with a new dyson (theirs) and hardly empty it ! they are never home always off to the most exclusive resorts and hotels,sandy lane all the most expensive ones.They are really minted but their house is quite modest,they are really good people to work 4 they realy look after me ,cchampagne for crimbo and b,days and usually £20 tip too

One of my local carpet retailers/ fitters has my cards on his counter and he gives me loads of work and if I think a carpet is beyond cleaning I reccomend them, It all came about when my machine cable shorted and melted a custys carpet, I gave him the job, got chatting and it turned out he had been looking for a carpet cleaner to reccomend. Im thinking of asking him to sell a maintainance programme with each sale which we get half each of, for insatance pay an extra whatever and get it cleaned in a year.

Carpet retailers can be a very good source of work. Also upholsterers. Their customers often ask them to recommend someone. Need to give them a little sweetner. We ended up doing all Newcastle Breweries pubs via their carpet supplier.
