Ive been doing some hypothetical figures today regards growing my business, and as at the moment the majority of my work is domestic so VAT would be bad for me. My idea was that if you got to VAT thresh hold would you be okay legally to have a company which you own which turns over lets say 1000 a week by means of an employee so thats 48000 a year turnover, so not vat threshold, and then still be a sole trader for your own work?? Or even the company in your wifes name and you be a sole trader ?? Thus avoiding reaching the VAT threshold......before anyone jumps in saying if you are a proper business you will deal with vat etc, i only want to work a few days a week for as much return as possible, if that wasnt the case i wouldnt be a window cleaner, i got this job for god return and flexibility.....

So would the above pass the taxman legally?

im not trying to cheat just thinking of legal loop holes so no matter how you try and get round it, if you hit 67, 000 threshold its vat no matter what???

They call this artificial seperation and it's illegal, and they go back even if they catch on years from now.

Judging from comments made on here though, many do seem to do this or something similar.

The standard advice for this is that accountants know all the best fiddles and thats why so many use one.If your wifes business were different in it's nature that would be allowable.

Im doing an accountant course next year waiting for it to start so maybe i can plan then.....just an idea, suppose was foolish to think i could think of something that hmrc hadnt

I understand his dilemma, 75k pa as a sole with no employers or hassle, how big an empire with how many vans and employees does he have to have to match this?

According to this site there are four main ways.

Going on a course, bookeeping/ accountancy, or even one of HMRC's own, is a great idea.

erm i think if you go back through many of your recent topics spewan you will find that nearly everyone finds your vague business degree posts annoying.....i was asking a genuine question if you are offended by my goals then i do apologize but like i say i wanna earn what i can in as little time each month as poss without any major ballaches, ie vat, if i have to do vat then fine but i am trying to avoid it if possible, like i say i am doing courses in accounting next year so i will be better able to deal with these things but for now i thought id ask people who are helpful to answer my question which they did for the most part...you were just trying to boost your inflamed ego as normal, you contribute absolute turd to this forum mate, why dont you start helping with your "knowledge" rather than always trying to sound intelligent and get one over, all you get over is that you are annoying.
