Self Assessment
« on: November 18, 2008, 10:14:40 pm »
This is a question for those who employ an accountant to do self assessment. How much do you pay them to do it?

do you pay the accountant for any other work or just self assessment. £140 does sound reasonable.

Bonkors,

This post will soon fill up with members saying, 'Don't be stooopid, get an accountant', or 'an accountant will save you more money than you spend on them', or 'Focus on your business and let an accountant do the boring stuff'.

But if you're a sole trader, doing your own books is easy; an accountant won't save you anything; though they'll make out they do.

A good book which is available in the library is called 'Self Assessment for the Self Employed', it's up-dated each year.  Self assessment is easy to understand; I think some window cleaners think it's rocket science when it's not.

And remember, it's called 'Self Assessment', not 'Accountancy Assessment'.

Thanks for the response Tosh, I intend to do all my books myself, also the tax return. The purpose of my post is to see how much accountants charge sole traders for tax returns so that i know how much i am saving in cost.

I can understand Tosh but for me I can't stand the hassle. My accountant  charges £75 to file it online for me and advise what was acceptable etc, and what I have missed.

He has charged same amount for last 3 times so anything around £100 should be ok IMO.

I'm not mentioning any opinion on whether they save you any tax.

Also it is tax deductable so knock 20% approx off the above figures.
