Whilst working last week, WFP, I was sliding all over the place on decking at the rear of properties, they were like ice rinks,.
Got me thinking how do you guys who still use the ladders cope with this, even with ladder mats you musty get some slips.

Had to use a ladder the other day on one, ended up using a non slip rubber matt and tied the ladder up just incase..  thank god im wfp for those regularly.

even with wfp these things are a hazard...i have fell on me bum a couple of times now on them.....last time i cracked me head on the stuff when i slid on it....nearly knocked some sense into me....i said nearly.

i am going to find the inventor of them and show him some of my decking skills.

if on my own i give it a miss .still charge same price .if missis is with me i put dry rag under feet n she holds ladder .

IF its slippy and unsafe dont do it if wfp or ladder user , and tell the customer why you havent done it .
think its called risk assesment .

Chuck soapy water from bucket down on ladder foot area = 2 minutes
Rub with old scrim, then place old scrim under foot of ladder = 3 minutes
Get up ladder and clean window as normal, realizing you make good money even when taking time to put safe measures in place!!

safe measure hahahahaha classic, tell safecontractor that one, who needs wfp or even scaffold, just clean the ground with scruffy old scrim, hahahaha

in the past i always used a damp scrim under ladderfeet it also works on slippy school halls it is a old trick used for years and works much better than the rubber anti slip devices that are sold but like said health and safety wont like it and so now we always make sure we get ladder footed.

 got to admit though on the odd occasion i may be on my own i have still used this method.

bit of 3x2   2 5inch nails and a hammer thats what i use at base of ladder trouble is it always pulls up  the odd decking plank when trying to leaver it off again .

better than slipping when your at the top of ladder . and if you ask first im sure they will understand  .

what if its a little old lady who lives at the house she cant hold the ladders you would slip then.

when trad , i made up a board, 2 ft scaffold plank , length 3 x 2 attached with screws ( for ladder to but up against ), several 6 " nails through scaffold board ,
in line with where ladder will sit,

these  protrude out the other end , position on decking so ends of nails go through gap between decking, worked well,

only worked though where decking ran the right way.

Don't do it, its not worth a broken tibia, fibia for a few quid.  Use wfp or tell them to have a go themselves from the inside! a couple of screws in a broken leg is 3 months off work  mate!
