Using WFP on 72ft boat !!HOW MUCH!!
« on: November 16, 2008, 07:51:21 pm »
I have been asked to clean a 72ft boat that's in the water, obviously i would only be cleaning the part's of the boat that are out of the water.
Never cleaned a boat before, has anyone cleaned a boat and wot sort of price do you think i should charge, The custies are loaded.Should i charge an hourly rate or a one off price. ???

If it wasn't in the water how much would you charge ?
then if you are hiring a boat and oarsman to get you round it how much would they cost ?
then double it ! ;D
dont look who's to blame, look how to fix it. anon

Have you got any pictures mate, this is an interesting one.

There are a few window cleaners round our way that are good at cleaning portholes.  ;D

Honestly mate - you need to have a look at it and try to work out how long its gonna take then x hourly rate + costs.

My guess is it will take a full day provided it isn't too dirty.
I've never been to bed with an ugly bird but I've woken up with loads!

if the boat is newish and a modern design rather than a yacht it will be a piece of cake, gel coat is easier to clean than glass and being white it wouldnt show up many spots anyway

you want to find out where its moored because if its in brighton marina your hose probably wont reach unless its one of the charter boats

i will give you call later matey

I used to work on a 60' boat Scuba Diving Launch in Eilat, Israel.

That boat wont take all day to clean by any stretch of the imagination.

However, probably not a bad idea to give him a 2-day price (wealth tax).

It wont be done with RO water, pointless; client wouldnt expect and would think you bonkers anyway.

There'll be a tap there if its in a Marina, use that.

I have had past involvement with this.
Their are many Companies that specialise in just cleaning boats and the customer will expect pure water to be used and for the boat to be totally spot free and a FIRST Class finish  otherwise they would just hose it down at the marina. It is likely that it could be ongoing and that other owners will also require the service.
Access to the boat will be the hardest thing, will they supply a dingy? if so it will require an experianced users to prevent the dingy from moving whist you are cleaning.
Look on this as an opertunity to move into a lucrative market and price accordinngly.

im no expert on boats but i dont think its just a matter of whipping round the outside with your brush theres probably more different types of boat cleaning chemicals than what there is for cars

If you think its worth using RO water on, fine, but it'll take one wave, one breath of salt-water laden breeze,  to have a fine layer of salt on it almost as soon as you leave the vessel.....

When I was away working in Israel, the boats, all of them, were washed off with tap water.

You not washing something to be viewed through, like glass.
