Hi,

Im just in the process of trying to take my  documents from the house pc upstairs, to my laptop ... using a usb flash memory drive,

i insert the usb in the socket, go to my documents,,, and i send , for example.. my envelope labels, to the removable drive......

when i insert it in the laptop, it says "windows needs to look on the internet to open this programme"... or browse... so i select "microsoft word"

and its all double dutch and mumbo jumbo.... HELP 

Thats my first attempt and i have loads and loads to move...

its a 1 gig memory stick.

Main pc is XP

and laptop is VISTA.

Hi

Instead of using send.

Go to the documents that you want to save to the flash drive.

Right click on the folder where these labels are, then left click on copy, navigate to the flash drive in My Computer, Open up the flash drive and right click and select paste ... the documents will be copies to the flash drive.

I take it that this is what you are tying to do?

If not ask away and I will try to help

when you insert your USB stick in ignore anything that compes up, click on the cross, or click cancel.

Then copy and paste docs.

Means that on your laptop there is a programe that you dont have that can read the data/documents on your flash drive.

So you have to choose the correct programme/application. If you do not have it you need to install it.

ah, right so if i made it in publisher i cant open it .....because i aint got it on my laptop... i have something similar.... but not actual microsoft publisher.

Down load a free trial, this will get you going. But when the trial ends you need to either buy it, or uninstall it.

If its pre installed click on the Vista start button thats the windows logo bottom left.

Click on programes and look for Microsoft Office, It will want to install it. Or did you remove it previously.

The way to tell is go to Control panel, Programs and features do you see Microsft Office in there? If not you have removed it.

Nope it might not alow that.. why cant you download it via your laptop.

Can you connect to the web with your laptop? if so open a browser on your laptop and download it that way.

what happens if you need to format or something, you dont have any installation back ups?

Maybe you have the "emergency" disc that loads everything on it again... i hate those..
