Anyone out there use a 4x4 for wfp or a crewcab iv got an 800lt system in a transit and a looking to expand so am going to sell my 320i as it just sits in the drive all week not even being used so was thinking about crewcab for the reasons of a bigger tank and storage space etc but also thought of a 4x4 witch would then double up as the family car need four seats and would then get a static system set up so could easily fill my tank back up at lunch times
any advice

thats pretty good for a tank of feul, i put around £90 in my van and get 600 miles, so all in all we probably gget abou the same. the fuel was one of the things that put me off it...but i see some not so bad mpg results from them.

I have a ford ranger with a 650L custom tank in.  It's good but expensive on fuel so I don't use it for family stuff any more.  With an 800L tank you'd be pushing the weight limit of a pick up as they normally take up to 1050Kg.  Tank + water + reels + fuel +toy ect, too heavy.

I use a Suzuki Vitara 5door. I took the back seats out and put an upright 250l tank in, leaves plenty of room for everything else. Previously, I used it with the back seats folded down and had to unload and reload daily, but there was room for 6x25 litre bottles and all the gear.
I guess it is not as economical as a 1.6 van but most people use bigger engines. Most of my round is town work, making parking difficult, the Vitara is quite a short vehicle. I also use it to move my caravan from a storage field, on a hill.

Thats my set up, Black l200 warrior, 10 barrels and a couple of backpacks. £68 - 390 miles. I went to watch the millers at stoke the other night, arrived a little late so couldnt find anywhere to park. Saw a ford ranger parked on some wasteland after he had mounted curb and crushed a few bushes. So i did the same, right outside the ground. I wouldnt have been able to do it in my old mondeo.

i looked at the dodge ram and dakota crewcab and Chevy crewcab  in orlando last week

all 3 looked great very good prices with about 1200 to ship to the UK

i prefered the Dakota to be honest, very well spec'ed

if your thinking of buying new, look into importing them from the USA, as they have more of a range

the only downside it the exchange rate isnt as good these days

Don't they tend to put 5L engines in them though?

they do a wide range of engines now, as the price of petrol was $4 a gallon ( 2 quid at the ex rates then ) a few months ago 
 its now hovering around the $2 a gallon price ( 1.50 quid a gallon  : ) and they  still dont like it, i was on a disney bus and some1 saw the price was 2.02 a gallon, he shouted " look at the price its still over $2  ) made me laugh

I know a hell of a lot about cars actually, and that is for putting bales and sheep in.
Or for women to drive to school in.

I hate to stereotype 4 x 4 owners (like Squeaky has!) but I must confess that for me the 4 x 4 driver in Bristol (reasonably large city and not a lot of muddy lanes and fields) does conjure up the image of a man with a small appendage trying to compensate....

In green welly, horse box land, well, fair enough but a mate of mine who lives on 20 acres of land near Cadair Idris in Snowdonia up a one mile shingle and mud track just uses a Subaru 4 x 4  saloon for all his driving and uses an F reg MOT failed Suzuki jeep thing around his land. The real farmers I clean for tend to use a smart estate (Merc/Volvo) plus a land rover.

A lot of 4 x 4 stuff is completely unnecessary. Even our Wye Valley boys use vans. If you're doing farms on the moors, ok but come on - really, you or your missus just clog up the narrow roads at school run time.!

No customer resentment issues in the 6 months that i have been farming i mean window cleaning in it. I go on a few council estates as well and not had any problems it must be my small appendage(another one with little idea).
