Is Hot water the best for cleaning?

You do not wash the dishes at home with cold water do you? Nor do you wash the dishes at home with out detergent therefore it is not the hot water alone that clean them. Brodex have spent 1000’s of pounds researching the cleaning power of pure water and have concluded that it is the Structure of the pure water it’s self that does the cleaning not the temperature of the water this has little or no effect. In 2007 a leading Resin supplier warned the industry that Hot de-ionised water could actually be corrosive and detrimental to some framework because oxygen will leave the water at high temperatures resulting in a higher concentration of dissolved carbon dioxide which increase it’s acidity. Brodex advice in stubborn dirt scenarios to either pre-treat with detergent or double clean to avoid costly law suits due to damage.

Surely hot water must be more aggressive which is why it cleans better. AFD (Tuckerpole) say a similar thing about hot water being more acidic. I do not believe they would make this up as they are a generally reputable company.

but at the end of the day its still just water,.. any change in acidity is minor, and lets face it probably still less acidic than some of the polluted rain that hits the windows all year round anyway.

Its rubbish released by companies that have not developed a hot water system. Marketing thats all.

Pure water wether hot or cold is not aggressive - its water its a simple as that.

I have had no detrimental effects with hot. In fact all I can say is it cleans better than cold especially on impacted soilage and first cleans.

hot water s just amarketing ploy by companies trying to sell u something u just dont need .its just more expense takes more room in the van one more thing to go wrong and maintain.comparing it to washing dishes is a no brainer,my dishes and plates are a lot dirtier and greasier than my windows .all mywork is done every 4 weeks and i would challenge anybody to clean any of my houses faster with hot than cold.you scrub once and rinse once and they are spotless.how can you do that any faster.the only advantage ican see is those 10 mornings a year iput gloves on and only for the first hour.and ive never cracked a window.as for the arguement its faster on first cleans how many of them do we do in aweek 2 or 3 .no thanks

I use hot - why? well I do a lot of annual / first cleans on commercial sites.  I live near the coast so we have fun with the seagulls if  you see what I mean. Hot water removes the impacted soilage in seconds where with cold its a lot more difficult and not always possible without using a chemical.

So hot is better at some jobs. Its effect on regular domestic is negliable in my opinion, however it dries quicker which the customers like and it does clean white upvc to a better standard - but on domestics its no essential, however I do use it for domestics now to.

good points kevin if i ever move to scarborough imight need it . ica see where it benefits you with your type of work but iwould imagine most wcs like myself who do 90%domestic regular just dont need it.off to work now 3 days in front after today and still not worn gloves thi winter .

i can see the point on first cleans and really filthy one off jobs
where it would save me time but 95% of my work is regular maintenance
cleaning so no real benefit so see no point in the extra expense

lets be honest here, a little R&D and you have a hot water system, look at the guys who have done it themselves, it would not take much for a company to build something based on what we have in the heaters on the market in the USA

What Brodex is saying is beyond belief, EVERYBODY the world over knows hot water has better cleaning power than cold, its a scientific fact. And its also true that the purer water is the better it is as a cleaning agent. So combine the two to get hot pure water.....

brodex rang me two weeks a go to sell to me iv never had any deling with them , any way i did mention hot he sad thay used to do hot but not now as ther bin lods of craked windows useing hot so dont do hot any moor , no mention of abuth

Not siding either way , but when different temperatures come together it "can" cause problems, ie clothes shrinking in the wash , scalding , cracked windows etc, i know thats extreme temps but maybe there are effects that can take time to come to light !
there is a lot of advertising from washing powder companies about washing at lower temperatures because it's kinder to the clothes and uses less energy ?
I would like to try hot for a day just to see and i'm interested in the ls heater as well but i can still do my work without so no rush.

how much cleaner can you get glass, hot gets it no cleaner on regular cleans.inearly forgot unless you count cracking the glass. it really is a no brainer .what will the big firms be selling the gullible window cleaners next. they wont get any of my cash.

There`s not many days that it`s to cold to use it at it`s hottest,how many frosty days do we have these days,not many.It would have to be bitterly cold and your water would have to be scolding hot,i used boiling water and i mean boiling some cold mornings working trad and never crack a pane of glass.

I'm sure IPA is more aggressive as a cleaner than hot water is,.... not saying anything bad about IPA mind,... just think that its scaremainering telling ppl hot water will do damage!

BTW, IPA in a hot wfp setup works really good,... I was never that impressed with it when I used it cold, but you can see the difference in the way the water sheets much more when its heated!

It's the legals and the health and safety matt, suppliers can't supply for a self fit (when I say can't i mean it's not worth the legal risk), and then as mentioned a few cracked windows and the system is blamed. If you look at some of the threads mate what a load dibbs. It's not hard to do it properly with a rinnai or a morco, i think a few problems will be posted when it gets cold.
