I do a bit of hill walking and scrambling and Brashers have a very good name for dry and breathable in the wet. Good choice.

i had a pair of those , very good boot, the only downside for me, was the sole wore out after 1 yr use, always kept my feet dry,

this year i have brought some brasher brouge gtx boots ,

these were a little more expensive, £109.99 ithink , have been using for about
3 mths now , the uppers seem more sturdy, the sole is vibram,

the soles on the hillwalkers are soft, but very good on soft ground, wet rocks ect,

the vibram soles on mine are a lot more  harder wearing ,but not so good grip as the hillwalkers, but will last longer,

a do a lot of walking , and always found brashers good

I am now on my 4th pair of brashers.

1st pair Hillmaster classic Air8 lined cost me about £90 5 years ago excellent boot had them on today, dead comfy.

2nd pair,  different model similar price, not as comfy though, gave away to my son 2 weeks ago, had them resoled first with Vibram soles £32.

3rd and 4th pair bought 5 weeks ago, got a good deal Hillmaster GTX and Supalite GTX (very soft leather lined) both pairs for £167.99 thats a wopping 30% off.

The soles on the boots are not very hardwearing and the cleat is more for gripping on wet grass and mud, you will find them quite slippery on wet(green) flags and concrete but when they wear out get them resoled with Vibram soles and they will last for ages.
Also keep them waxed or you will find the leather will crack, I do mine every morning before work.
And yet another thing, don't dry them on the radiator, better to let them dry naturally and they will stay supple much longer.

Can't you tell I love my Brashers.

I don't like a very thick or stiff sole because i like to feel the pole hose under my foot if i tread on it. Nothing worse than trying to yank your pole about when your stood on the hose and don't realise it.

had a pair of zammerlans with vibram soles must of took me 3 yrs to break them in but did me for another  6yrs  ...saw some brashers at allan austins(bradford)  were like slippers,really supple, but far too good for work at 130 notes a pair.

Have you noticed how heavy this job is on boots? You can wear a pair out in a comparatively short time. Must do more walking than I realise.

Brashers are great boots but the sole units aren't meant for pavements and will wear quickly whats needed are high density soles [ ie harder rubber compound ] Hi Tec do a range called Magnum these would last longer and are half the price of Brashers.
Any outdoor walking boots sold in walking shops like Millets / Blacks etc have low density soles because they are grippier on soft ground , think football boots great for grass fields crap for playgrounds .

Next boots I buy are going to be Alt Berg field and fell they are what all the coppers wear round here, have to be comfortable as they are in them all day. the lady cops wear them too. Although 1 or two have complained about the sole separating from the boot.
Quite expensive but class them as a work tool.
If you get 30 weeks out of any footwear at £150 thats only £1 per day so any longer is a bonus.

I would hope to get a few years out of any boot but that is rotating through wearing different ones from day to day.
I say better two pairs used in rotation than one pair all the time.

Haven't tried the Magnums but i did try the hi-tec trainer boot and found them to be a waste of material.

Also used to wear Doc's a lot had a few pair of those but then the build quality changed the leather became thicker lower quality, split easily, and the insole was made of compressed paper or so it seemed, as they would disintegrate when your feet got wet, as they did in Doc's.

The most important thing about workboots is that they do what they are intended to do
1/ support your feet - usualy a thermoplastic shank inserted into the midsole , this supports the motion of your feet ie heel toe etc etc
2/ keep your feet dry - waterproof ones normaly use a membrane internally inserted , unfortunatley these make your feet sweat , a full grain leather without membrane is best , use plenty of aftercare nixwax is best
3/ Comfortable - manufacturers use a last [ piece of wood shaped like a foot ] all feet are different ? find a make that fits YOUR foot ......Merrell fit me great
4/ Durability- as mentioned on a previous post alternate your footwear give them time to recover wear 1 pair ALL the time and they wont last, wear 3 pairs and they will last 5 times longer
Finally i dont wear boots i wear Merrell trainers well treated with aftercare and on a big job i put on wellies with waterproof overtrousers..... BUT i always wear DECENT [ £10 a pair ] SOCKS.

I just ordered some waterproof trainers from strauss direct, cant get on there website to get a link at minute it must be down.....
but they were waterproof etc, and were about £40 just waiting for them now to see, im sick of wet feet from normal trainers though, and they just fall apart as well on ladders. So hopefully the days of wet feet are gone
