i often work with back doors open, as it is easier than going back, to lock back doors, at the moment i do not carry carbon poles,

there was a topic recently on van theft, and it has made me think.

how many work with back doors open?

what do you do to protect your expensive poles?

tanks, batterys , pump , hose reel ect. are secured so not worried about them.

i think some thieves are wising up to the price of carbon fibre poles,

and open van doors with them on show , is easy pickings

your thoughts please.

i know that, but quite a few on here have said they work with open van doors ,


in a recent thread on diy hot water systems, many said they work with open back doors,

i have a l5 heater fitted in the van and work with the doors open, i do live in a safe area, but im in the process of manufacturing a cowl and flue to fit the heater to exhaust the fumes out the roof.
even before the heater, i pulled the tailgate down when i was working but never locked any thing, just trying to take temptation out of thieves minds.

i usually work doors open especilly when the inside of the van is wet it dries quicker

Doors closed & locked if I'm out of sight. Had two attempts at breaking into my van by thieves when I've been out of sight of van.

i used to work out of a berlingo multispace , used to pull tail gate down on that, it had remote central locking/alarm,

the tail gate was not fully closed , but i could activate central locking/ alarm

the alarm would go of if i opened tailgate , so that was fairly secure

i have a scudo now and reel is bolted in( used to lift out of berlingo)

i hate having to walk back to lock back doors.

fit pipes in the back of the van and put your cf poles in them. make them long enough so you can only get the poles out if the rear doors are open, and work from the side door

you can fabricate a cage door inside one of the doors

  I have 2 areas where I think it is a bit risky to leave the van open and un-attended, on those days my dog comes to work with me.
  It would take a brave or stupid theif to try with him sat on gaurd.

My van is always open at the back.
In a couple of places I lock the cab if I'm a bit far from it, but it's not really important.

If in doubt...move to a nicer area.

i leave mine open but im usually in sight of it. theres nothing to nick in mine really. everything as you said is secured

i sometimes click the button so side door and cab is locked up
