had this the other week for charge of 50.00 its a load of crap.


they made it out to sound like it was the council but its not its a diffrent company putting together a book that goes to council's, again its another con in my eyes.

The local council will only let registered contractors quote for any work, the list basically pre-screens you for them, but for business to register you have to pay £90 + vat, the manager of the local leisure centre told me if your name not on the list they can't give you any work.
I was asking if anyone was on this list for their local council and was it worth the money / did they get much work from it ?

when ever i have wont council work they have contacted me through advertising or schools by ringing up.

I work for two councils - they phoned me initially as any other client would. £90 to register for work - either your council is running a scam or someone is pulling your chain!!!

Did someone phone you - from the council - saying something along the lines of tendering for your local council and saying there would be a £90 registration fee?

Scam!

I was left a message from the 'council' a few months ago; the message said something along the lines of, 'we've got a job if you're interested in doing it'.

Obviously I was, but the number they left on my answer phone was a bit garbled, so I had to try four-or-five different variations of this number before I got hold of the guy who phoned me only to find out it was some company 'contracted' by the council (so they said) wanting me to advertise in their brochure.

He got the big 'FO Tablet'!

I suggest you do the same.

thats what i got the same as tosh! they try and made out they had jobs for me  by saying wud you be intrested in local authority work? we have some!

I have had two calls like that in the past 6 months... one the council...  :

the other said they will give me work from the ..nhs.

as soon as they said that.... i stopped them in their tracks... i said please can you get to the point you are making... what is the cost to me?....

They said ..er well we can arrange blah blah for £££.

I said.

Phone the council direct and ask to speak to the person responsible for procuring services, then you'll get it from the horses mouth.

Its a scam. Councils don't charge to register. The people who award the contracts want backhanders but thats another story.

Its not the only way in with your council

In fact the way to be in with them is to write to them, explaining and detailing what you do (abseiling?, pole work?, platforms?) asking to be included on their contractors list. It'll involve paper-work and some legalities etc but it wont involve someone taking a dodgy back-hander from you hat wont get you in.

My local Trading Standards has a contractors list.
You send them your insurance details , contact details for  2 of your customers, and £50 then you can go on it
